Job Summary

The Policy and Advocacy Director will be responsible for the execution of strategies designed to advance RHA of TN’s public policy goals around healthcare access and social determinants of health. The position works with the CEO, contract lobbyist, and policy committee to build advocacy capacity, deepen member engagement, and generate public awareness campaigns.

Job Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute advocacy plans to advance policy goals.
  • Support creation of public awareness campaigns on issues such as housing and homelessness, food security, vaccine hesitancy, incarceration, maternal mortality, and rural health workforce.
  • Build and manage relationships among members and key partners to provide targeted supports, technical assistance, and consultation in an effort to increase their capacity to engage in advocacy on these issues.
  • Organize, participate in, and conduct trainings, webinars, and conferences to build awareness and knowledge for members and the public on identified policy issues.
  • Cultivate relationships with national and state leaders and partners and find synergy with National Rural Health Association policy priorities.

Communication

  • Work with RHA of TN’s Communications Manager to plan and implement education campaigns.
  • Write and distribute reports, articles, briefs, and memoranda on issues related to healthcare access, safety net support issues, and social determinants of health.
  • Engage with media on key policy issues.

Other Essential Functions

  • Maintain a deep understanding of all programs and opportunities to share and promote.
  • Work cross functionally with other RHA of TN staff to support all programs and organizational goals as identified by RHA of TN’s strategic plan and contracts.
  • Serves as a liaison between members and the National Rural Health Association.
  • Attends appropriate educational meetings to keep current with his/her field of knowledge.

Assist with other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required with minimum of 5 years of experience in public health/healthcare policy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of access to care issues in rural communities.
  • Organized, proactive, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large audiences.
  • Demonstration of excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, communication (verbal and written), project management skills required.
  • Proficient using technology.
  • Experience working with a high-performing and collaborative team.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to improving health among rural and other minority populations.
  • Commitment to learning new things, developing as a leader, and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Flexible with ability to manage multiple projects.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience managing complex projects and/or grants.
  • Experience working with a remote team and remote management.
