STATEMENT OF JOB

The Membership and Local Chapter Coordinator is responsible for development and support of local chapters and increasing members of The Arc and People First in Tennessee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General

  • Uphold the mission, positions and values of The Arc Tennessee
  • Possess a general knowledge of The Arc as a national, state, and local organization
  • Comply with fiscal, legal, and agency requirements
  • Role model behaviors of trust, competence, vision, and inspiration
  • Involve others in planning and problem solving
  • Expand knowledge and skills through on-the-job, program sponsored, and outside educational opportunities
  • Seek out opportunities that expand the scope of services offered by The Arc Tennessee

Job Responsibilities

Specific Job Duties

  • Promote development of chapters of The Arc TN by scheduling speaking engagements and making presentations on Getting to Know The Arc and Steps in Starting a Local Chapter
  • Assist forming chapters of The Arc with meetings, board development, and completing government and affiliation paperwork
  • Support chapters of The Arc with affiliation questions and membership processing
  • Maintain membership database for The Arc TN; process memberships into the database and upload to The Arc US portal
  • Complete monthly membership totals report for chapters of The Arc TN and generate Membership Matters email that is sent to Board, Membership Committee, Membership Processors and Local Chapter Leaders
  • Serve as staff liaison to The Arc TN Membership Committee
  • Promote membership in People First TN by scheduling speaking engagements about People First TN at events where self-advocates will be present:
    • DIDD regional focus groups
    • MCO advisory council groups
    • TN Disability MegaConference
    • Provider agencies that support people with IDD
    • Centers for Independent Living and disability specific organizations such as the Down syndrome association and Autism societies
    • Post-secondary programs for young adults with I/DD (Next Steps, IDEAL, Futures, EDGE, Tigerlife)
    • Job Club
  • Promote People First TN membership through email engagement as appropriate (e.g. ask other organizations to include People First TN membership information in their newsletters)
  • Ensure People First TN membership applications are completed accurately and submitted to the appropriate person along with payment
  • Ensure People First TN memberships are renewed annually
  • Support groups of self-advocates to form local chapters of People First TN
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required
  • Support activities of the agency including family meetings, board committees, conferences, work groups, state task forces, and others as requested
  • Maintain documentation of activities
  • Perform other duties as requested

Reporting and Documentation

  • Complete monthly reports
  • Complete time sheets and expense reports as required
  • Other documentation upon request

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma and experience may be substituted)
  • At least two years’ experience (professional or personal) working with disability systems navigation as a person with a disability, family member, or professional
  • Ability to work independently
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Computer use background including Microsoft Office
  • Reliable transportation
