Job Summary

The LEP Advocate will provide direct service and program assistance to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the immigrant community. Additionally, the LEP Advocate will develop, sustain and strengthen collaborations with stakeholders, community partners and others in the immigrant community. The LEP Advocate will be trained in shelter advocacy, court advocacy, case management and other program areas.

Job Responsibilities

The position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, information/referral and other services to individuals and families in immigrant communities.
  • Respond to medical facilities, law enforcement and social service agencies when an initial report of domestic assault has been made to provide crisis intervention, safety planning and begin the advocacy and support process
  • Determine needs of clients and refer to appropriate Agency program, if needed
  • Orient new clients to the services.
  • Provide support and services to LEP clients in the shelter program, court program or other Agency program.
  • Refer clients to needed community resources.
  • Provide education about domestic or sexual violence as appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe and open environment for clients to discuss their concerns and needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate and understandable records, including monthly report
  • Attend scheduled team and training sessions as well as staff meetings.

Qualifications

The minimum requirements are: High school graduate with education or experience in addressing domestic violence; bi-lingual; the ability to work in crisis situations as a team member and independently; self-motivated; adequate understanding of clients who have alcohol/drug and/or mental health issues and a valid driver’s license and insurance.

A college degree, from an accredited college, in related field is preferred.
