Job Summary
Legal Aid Society is a private, non-profit organization that provides free legal services to people with low income. Legal Aid Society’s mission is to advance, defend, and enforce the legal rights of low-income and vulnerable people to secure for them the basic necessities of life. We have 8 offices that serve 48 Tennessee counties. Legal Aid Society concentrates on 5 main areas of law practice: Family/Immigration, Health & Benefits, Consumer/Tax, Housing/Home Retention, and Employment.
We offer internships during the spring, summer, and fall terms.

Job Responsibilities
The main purpose of these internships is to provide valuable and hands-on experiences in our organization’s daily operations working alongside our attorneys and staff. We eagerly welcome fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and genuine enthusiasm for non-profit endeavors. Students interested in a summer internship must be prepared to devote a minimum time commitment of 20 hours per week for at least 10 weeks. Students interested in Fall and Spring internships must be prepared to devote a minimum time commitment of 10 hours per week for at least 8 weeks.
Qualifications
- Students enrolled in an accredited law program.-(preferred ) for legal internships
- Students enrolled in (Communications, Compliance, Technology, Development, and Accounting)programs are preferred for support staff roles.
- A demonstrated, strong dedication to public interest law as evidenced by relevant experience and coursework.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in using MS Office applications.
- While not mandatory, knowledge of foreign languages would be considered a beneficial asset.
