Job Summary

This is a grant funded non-Civil Service position in the Office of Family Safety, and will provide full advocacy services to FSC clients and will serve as a liaison with law enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office, non-profit organizations, the District Attorney’s Office, Department of Human Services with the State of Tennessee, Legal Aide, and other programs as needed to assist victims of interpersonal violence in achieving safety and resource utilization to be free of violence.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention and advocacy services for victims of interpersonal violence (with a focus on target population) including:
    • Safety planning
    • Needs assessments
    • Referral services and connection to resources
    • Risk/Danger Assessment
    • Education
  • Assists victims in completing the ex parte order of protection paperwork, presenting to the Court Commissioner, and understanding the court process and protections of an order of protection
  • Assist with resources for basic needs
  • Prepare high-risk case review:  review cases for the high-risk assessment team. Gathers needed history and documentation for presentation
  • Assist the Domestic Violence Division of the Metro Nashville Police Department with walk-ins, including safety planning, resource location, order of protection paperwork, court preparation, and explaining court procedures (Civil and Criminal).
  • Make referrals to link clients to a wide range of resources and services (internal partner connections and external partner referrals),
  • Translate for partners as needed and appropriate
  • Assist with Victims’ Compensation applications 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimally two years’ experience working with victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault or related issues
  • Experience working in or with both non-profits and the criminal justice system
  • Social Work or Counseling licensure

 

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work from 10:00 am – 6:30 pm
  • Experience translating materials
  • Strong administrative skills with Microsoft program (Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrate understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and effective intervention strategies.
  • Experience interpreting for people experiencing trauma
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to engage in positive collaboration with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives
  • Problem solver, highly efficient, and detail-oriented
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Bilingual Preferred
  • Experience with data management and analytics, particularly Microsoft Access
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams/collaboratives
  • Experience working under and reporting on grants
