Job Summary

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville (HFHGN) is an ecumenical Christian ministry that provides homeownership opportunities for working men and women who are unable to qualify for a traditional mortgage loan and operates retail stores that sell donated home and office furnishings and building supplies to the public. In compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, the Human Resources Director leads the development and implementation of all human resources activities, including employment, salary and benefits administration, performance management, Workers Comp claims, payroll processing, FMLA administration, policy administration communication, interpretation and application of policies, including diversity and inclusion, employee relations, EEOC or other discrimination claims, staff meetings, and employee safety administration. This hands-on position actively participates as a member of the agency’s senior leadership team, provides direction and counsel on all HR matters to leadership, and supervises the Office Administrator.

Job Responsibilities

  • Directs the recruiting, screening, personality surveys using DiSC, hiring and onboarding for all agency employees, according to policy and procedure and in collaboration and cooperation with designated supervisors
  • Directs the employee job description, job classification, wage and salary administration including market analyses, and performance management processes in collaboration with direct supervisors
  • Manages the Payroll function for the agency, ensuring accurate timekeeping and payroll processing with supporting documentation, including time off, benefits and timely response to inquiries and information needs
  • Manages the benefits administration function, including all work with the outsourced Benefits Consultant, coordinating the selection and enrollment for medical, dental, vision, SIMPLE IRA and other plans and meeting deadlines for timely and accurate annual enrollment
  • Keeps up to date with all HR Law and compliance regulations
  • Files Workers’ Comp. claims as warranted and participates in annual Workers’ Comp audit.
  • Manages Short Term/Long Term Disability / FMLA reporting and compliance
  • Updates Employee Handbook and Policies and Procedures on an annual basis, assures their thorough communication and monitors adherence to their content. Researches and drafts new and revised human resource and administrative policies for Administration Committee and legal approval
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive employee files and records
  • Plans employee staff meetings and other communication, training and teambuilding gatherings and maintains minutes and follow up actions
  • Recommends solutions to advocate wellness and safety in conjunction with departmental Safety Officer network
  • Directs the drug free workplace administration process and training for the agency
  • Oversees the smooth functioning of the agency central office
  • Communicates with all levels of management and staff to monitor, shape and evolve the culture, connecting supervisors and employees with supplemental information and training resources as warranted
  • Collaborates with other members of the Senior Leadership Team in achieving excellence in human resources management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in Human Resources or related field preferred
  • SPHR or SHRM SPC certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years as an HR Generalist
  • Minimum of 3 years payroll processing experience 
  • Retail experience in an HR capacity is beneficial to this position
  • Excellent time-management, communication, diplomacy, communication, project management and organization skills
  • Proficient Microsoft Office suite and HRIS system management skills required
  • Ability to plan, organize, supervise, guide, and work cooperatively in team management
  • Regular and reliable attendance required
  • Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen
