Job Summary

The Nashville Teacher Residency is seeking a new Executive Director to serve the organization’s mission to develop and license teachers from diverse backgrounds and experiences who honor the dignity of every student. Grounded in the Nashville community and working together with the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) and other locally authorized schools in middle Tennessee, we envision a community of collaborative, reflective, excellent educators who pursue liberation in Nashville schools.

Our next Executive Director will demonstrate anti-racist approach to educator preparation, a strong equity perspective, and an inclusive approach to leadership. We seek a leader with experience fostering open and inclusive discussions and demonstrating the ability to adapt and change in response to shared perspectives of all stakeholders, while building and maintaining strong partnerships with schools, school leaders, and districts. Our next Executive Director will also work with a strong team to continue the organization’s growth toward long-term sustainability through sound financial planning, budgeting, and expenditure control and ensuring a strong and continuous process to attract and retain highly qualified, diverse, and mission-focused team members.

Job Responsibilities

The Nashville Teacher Residency is supported by a committed Board, grounded in the Nashville community, and committed to the long-term sustainability and growth of the program. NTR is in the middle of a 5-year contract with Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) and is in the process of developing deeper relationships with charter schools in Middle Tennessee. A highly accomplished and collaborative staff is working to build strong foundations for the organization that will contribute further to this long-term vision.

The Board and Team at NTR are nearing the completion of a formal strategic plan and sees this leadership transition as an opportunity to engage the next Executive Director in the remaining development and near-term adoption of this plan. The areas of emphasis in this plan currently include:

  • Create a financial plan that allows NTR team to make long term plans that ensure the financial sustainability of the organization and allow for growth which uplifts and builds power amongst Residents & alumni, especially those from historically marginalized communities.
  • Be the leading voice for preparation and support of a diverse teaching force committed to liberatory practices by preparing and licensing excellent teachers who have a positive impact on student achievement and create positive learning environments for students in schools in and around Nashville.

With a budget of approximately $1.15 million, NTR has focused its work on resident outcomes and driven consistent improvements in the central elements of educator licensure, placement, and effectiveness with students. At the same time, work to broaden the sources of financial support for the organization have also grown, and the organization is poised for continued growth.

The next Executive Director of NTR will work together with a talented and experienced team to advance the mission and vision of the organization while working to take the organization from good to great.  NTR is seeking a collaborative and committed leader who values educators, leads with empathy, and prioritizes anti-racism.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Based in Middle-Tennessee and/or willingness to relocate
  • Knowledge of the complex systems and key stakeholders of the Nashville/middle Tennessee education landscape
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of experience in education and/or non-profit management
  • 2+ years managing project and organization or school-based budgets
  • Outstanding pedagogical knowledge, passion for content area, and love of teaching
  • Proven leadership of initiatives which advance equity, diversity, and inclusion within organizations
  • Expertise (experience) prioritizing, organizing, and managing highly-detailed, collaborative projects
  • Ability to create, innovate, implement, and execute concrete ways to identify, address, and mitigate biases in workplace and programming
  • Experience working alongside racially, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse populations
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively across teams, organizations, schools, and communities
  • Demonstrated success with fundraising for an organization
  • Fluency with Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, and other technology platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teacher license and/or school administrator’s license
  • Advanced degree
  • Knowledge of Tennessee state board of education policies and Tennessee academic learning standards
  • Experience designing, improving, and/or leading an alternative educator preparation program
