Job Summary

The Elementary Grades Assistant shall meet the needs of the children, the program, and the well being of the classroom. The Elementary Grades Assistant will work to guide the children through imitation, and to strengthen and develop the children’s will and senses through meaningful interactions. The Elementary Grades Assistant will be directly engaged with the children in both the classroom and recess settings.

Monday-Friday, Part-time, hourly

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide both morning and afternoon recess coverage.
  • Assist class and subject teachers.
  • Document observations of each student related to successes and challenges of presented curriculum and share information with class teachers.
  • Be available to meet with parents and other teachers to discuss individuals, either at conference time or as necessary relating to other concerns.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to first contact with students.
  • Provide substitute coverage as needed for class and subject teachers, according to availability.
  • Assist class teacher in maintaining and organizing student work and classroom supplies

Additional Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Maintaining and striving for an openness to understand and work with the anthroposophical underpinnings of waldorf education and child development.
  • Attendance and participation in fall parent conference days and parent meetings. Attendance at other parent conferences as much as possible in schedule.
  • Attendance and participation in weekly faculty meetings, three in-service sessions in the beginning and end of each academic year (August and June) and spring of each year (February or March).

 

 

 

  • Attendance and participation in weekly section meetings and child studies.
  • Service on at least one faculty or board committee.
  • Attendance/assistance at major all-school activities in accordance with the all school event guidelines.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Attendance at the all-school meetings called by the Board of Directors.
  • Willingness to help lead teacher as needed with classroom aesthetics, including seasonal displays.
  • Willingness to participate in enrollment process of new students, particularly in discussions of student placement.
  • Participation in the design and execution of an individualized plan for professional development. Attendance at Waldorf education summer training as identified as appropriate by the school.
  • Constantly/occasionally operate a computer and other office machinery.
  • Frequently communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and leadership.

 

 

 

 

  • Actively supervise students with focus even when distractions present.
  • Work in various outdoor weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • All teachers share responsibility for the well-being of the school.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

1 – 2 years previous classroom experience
