Job Summary

Matthew 25 is a Nashville-based nonprofit focused on the mission of moving homeless men from the streets into permanent housing.  More than a shelter, we provide supportive services to homeless men who are looking to lift themselves up and turn their lives around.  Matthew 25 offers transitional housing, a caring staff, job coaching and counseling, all in a drug and alcohol-free environment.

The Operations Director is responsible for the daily operations and success of Matthew 25, Inc. helping to ensure seamless team management, development, program delivery and staffing.  The Operations Director will model Matthew 25, Inc. core values, manage all non-programmatic systems, facility maintenance, assist with risk management, transportation, technology, vendor relationships and compliance.  The Director of Operations reports directly to the Executive Director, serving as a member of the Senior Staff Team and working closely with the ED to execute and enhance the strategy, mission, values and budget of Matthew 25, Inc.

Job Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, and oversee training and orientation of all monitors, maintenance, and support staff.
  • Coordinate volunteers serving at Matthew 25 to include recruitment of volunteers, determination of duties to be performed, on-site supervision and tracking of volunteer hours.
  • To implement the strategic goals and objectives that have been set in place by the Board of Directors.
  • To provide operational direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, strategy and its annual goals and objectives.
  • To provide daily monitoring and review of on-site surveillance systems to detect behavior which violates Matthew 25 policies.
  • To provide on-site drug and alcohol testing when violations are suspected or upon the direction or request of the Executive Director or Clinical Director.
  • Major Functions and Accountabilities include:
    • Operational Leadership and Administration & Support
      • Support operations and administration of Executive Director (ED) by advising and informing, interfacing between ED and staff, and supporting ED’s evaluation of staff at year end.
      • Develop and maintain systems and procedures to ensure smooth execution of operations including meals, emergency plans, facility operations and upkeep and resource inventory.
    • Program, product & service delivery
      • Cultivate existing relationships with vendors with the goal of ensuring sufficient space, resources and access to services for clients.  Manage vendor relationships to ensure delivery of products and services to meet expectations.
    • Risk & Facilities Management
      • Recommend yearly budget for ED and Board approval and prudently manages organization’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
    • Human Resource Management
      • Effectively manage the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations.
      • Recruit, hire, and oversee training and orientation of all monitors, maintenance, and support staff.
      • Ensure a reporting process is in place for all monitors to maintain sufficient client information.
      • Schedule monitors for sufficient coverage, client room assignments, chore lists and overall operational maintenance of the facility.
      • Work with building authorities on any issues having to do with facility maintenance and operations.
    • Community & Public Relations
      • Assure the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
    • Fundraising
      • Assist with fundraising, planning and implementation wherever possible and required by the Executive Director
    • Other duties as needed or assigned.

  • A track record of building relationships and collaboration with professional colleagues and other stakeholders, both within and outside of the organization.
  • Understanding of non-profits and experience working with Boards of Directors and the clients served within the program.
  • Visionary, trustworthy, diplomatic, understanding and innovative, displaying high energy, cheerfulness, and maturity with a strong desire to serve and support the men in our program and community.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with other agencies and diverse venture organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; strong presentation skills.
  • Multi-cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong operations, logistics, inventory, and organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Strong budgetary experience in the creation, monitoring and adherence to budgets.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn new databases.
