Job Summary

The Director of Human Resources & Inclusion will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO),  and will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team and will provide leadership, direction and execution in all aspects of the human resources function, including talent acquisition/recruiting, employee relations, compensation and benefits, budgeting and strategic planning, performance management, succession planning, and employee engagement. Additionally, this role will be responsible for creating and implementing strategic human resources initiatives that support the Nashville Symphony’s mission and values, including equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging (EDIB). The goal is to make the Nashville Symphony a desirable of choice for talented, passionate, committed people who believe and want to participate in the organization’s mission and vision.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide Human Resources consultation and support to management on HR-related issues.
  • Foster an internal culture that supports mutual accountability, respect, collaboration, transparent communication and personal growth.
  • Support the organization’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging (EDIB) by promoting equal employment opportunity, fairness, and consistency in the treatment of employees.
  • Collaborate with management to implement an annual goal-setting performance management system by establishing clear performance expectations, ongoing feedback and coaching.
  • Develop, implement and manage Human Resources policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Partner with the executive leadership team to understand and prioritize critical business challenges.
  • Partner with the executive leadership team to develop and implement compensation structure and protocols.
  • Manage the daily operations of the Human Resources department and provide consistent, outstanding customer service to all employees.
  • Facilitate and supervise hiring, orientation, and separation processes.
  • Participate in the annual insurance renewal process for employee benefits and for the organization’s property, workers compensation, liability and other insurance needs.
  • Lead the organization in drafting and adopting policies, job descriptions, employee manuals, and related documentation.
  • Design and implement plans for:
    • New Employee Onboarding
    • Staff Training and Development
    • Leadership Development
    • Succession Planning
    • Employee Wellness
    • Staff Recruitment
    • Development of Workplace Policies
  • Draft, distribute, and analyze results of annual employee engagement survey for communication to management.
  • Oversee the design, maintenance, and implementation of all employee benefit plans.
  • Provide day-to-day administration of the 403(b) plan, oversee plan compliance, and manage the annual audit process of plan with our auditors.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, plus a minimum of five (5) years of experience, of which four (4) consecutive years are in a leadership role in the Human Resources field, including recruitment, training, benefit administration, compensation management, and employee/labor relations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field a plus.
  • PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and be knowledgeable in Human Resources software systems.
  • Prior experience working in a union environment helpful.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to research and gather data from the Internet and other sources, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Must have knowledge of principles, theories, and practice of Human Resources management.
  • Must have exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
