Job Summary

Elizabeth House is a faith-based nonprofit in Pasadena, CA serving pregnant women and their children experiencing homelessness. We are committed to ending the cycle of homelessness and abuse in women and children through comprehensive case management, counseling, educational classes, prenatal care, and resources throughout pregnancy and beyond. Our goal is to empower women to live healthy, holistic lives and become the best mothers they can be. We serve an average of 15-20 families per year in our Residential Program, 200 families through Alumni Services and offer expanded services to community families through our Center for Mother and Child Wellbeing.

The Director of Development works under the direction of the Executive Director (ED) in collaboration with the Development Team. The position is responsible for directing all aspects of the fund development strategy for Elizabeth House. Must be able to think strategically and practically to implement a comprehensive and results-oriented plan using traditional and innovative methods.

Job Responsibilities

FUND DEVELOPMENT
⎯ Work with the ED to develop and manage all funding sources.
⎯ Create and manage the day-to-day operations of all fund development activities.
⎯ Ensure that all fundraising is in line with the organization’s values, mission, vision and goals.
⎯ Research, recommend and manage all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation and relations, including developing strategies for existing donors to effectively move through a meaningful cycle of giving.
⎯ Coordinate foundation and corporate giving
⎯ Develop a comprehensive planned giving program.
⎯ Identify, cultivate, recruit and organize development leaders and volunteers.
⎯ Work in collaboration with the Director of Communications and Church Relations to cultivate new and existing church partnerships.

SPECIAL EVENTS
⎯ Oversee the planning and implementation of all special events, including the Annual Benefit Gala, Garden Party, and donor appreciation events.
⎯ Create the event management plan and assigns duties and due dates to the Team.
⎯ Work with the Development Team on branding and themes of events, as well as execution of related communications and collateral.
⎯ Help recruit volunteers to serve on event committees, with efforts to cultivate them into donors.
⎯ Work with Committee, ED, and Development Team in the administration and logistics of all events.

GRANTS AND REPORTS
⎯ Work in collaboration with the grant writer and Development Associate to assign, edit, and manage grant proposals and reports.
⎯ Make annual grant projections and researches new grant opportunities to ensure aggressive Foundation fundraising goals.
⎯ Manage the production of the annual report to promote fundraising goals and activities.GENERAL
⎯ Help establish performance measures, monitor results and help the ED and Board evaluate the effectiveness of the organization’s fund development program.
⎯ Work closely with the Development Associate in donor and gift record-keeping, management of databases and files, acknowledgement of gifts, etc.
⎯ Ensure donors are kept up-to-date with Elizabeth House activities and events.
⎯ Understand and assess the mission, vision and the overall operational and strategic performance of Elizabeth House.
⎯ Drive strategic initiatives, support the development of long-term growth plans and profitability goals and recommend emerging opportunities.

Qualifications

⎯ Openly passionate about the mission of Elizabeth House, i.e., having a demonstrated commitment to social issues related to homelessness, maternal mental health, domestic violence and child abuse.
⎯ Demonstrates servant leadership and exemplifies an enthusiastic, collaborative, decisive, motivating and engaging communication style.
⎯ Relationship focused with a bent for working with diverse groups of people, including clients, colleagues, corporations, civic groups, churches and foundations.
⎯ Bachelor’s degree required in fundraising or related field.
⎯ A minimum of 5 years professional fundraising experience, public relations/ marketing and management.
⎯ Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT.
⎯ Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources, including major gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations.
⎯ Experience in donor cultivation, grant writing, contracts management and special events.
⎯ Knowledge of connections to the funding community in Los Angeles and California.
⎯ Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes and a results-oriented culture.
⎯ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
⎯ Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
⎯ Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and donor tracking systems.
⎯ Sound judgment, professionalism and a positive attitude.
⎯ Resourcefulness, creativity and strong problem-solving skills.
