Job Summary

The Director of Institutional Giving sets the fundraising strategy for corporate sponsorships and government/foundation grants to support the fundraising efforts of NPLF. This position manages prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and tracking of corporate sponsors and grant funds to raise diverse sources of funding needed to support the work of Nashville Public Library, including programs, events, annual fund contributions, and other projects.   This individual serves as a member of the fundraising team. This position works closely with key NPL stakeholders including, but not limited to: NPL administration and staff, board members and corporate contacts to create dynamic applications, proposals, and other necessary collateral to best connect institutional giving donors with financial needs of NPL/F.

The Director of Institutional Giving reports to the NPLF President.

Job Responsibilities

IG Prospecting Cultivation and Solicitation

  • Build lists of potential corporate and foundation donors from a variety of sources; qualify and identify prospects.
  • Manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation accounts, devising individual cultivation plans and building relationships to maximize potential giving.
  • Seek corporate and foundation gifts for diverse campaigns, including programs, events, annual fund, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Craft solicitations, grant applications, presentations, and grant/partnership reports.
  • Involve senior management, including the President and Library Administration, as well as program managers, board members, and other volunteers, in fundraising cultivation and stewardship to maximize the success of solicitations.
  • Develop fundraising strategies to meet goals for corporation and foundation gifts for specific campaigns.
  • Create new and inventive opportunities for corporate sponsorship including packaging of existing NPL work and the articulation of creative, updated sponsorship benefits
  • Report monthly on campaign and prospect tracking reports, enter documentation of gifts and pledges against budget goals in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Work closely with IG funders to fulfill benefits, working with other departments to deliver benefits and ensure maximum gain for IG funders with a goal of donor retention to ensure continued engagement.

General

  • Serve as a member of the fundraising team, participating in regular meetings, the planning and activities of the department, and assisting with other department priorities.
  • Support the overall objectives of NPLF and act as an ambassador for the institution.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • 3-5 years fundraising experience, preferably in grants and corporate sponsorship
  • Ability to prioritize multiple needs in fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer, internet research and writing and editing skills
  • Skill and experience in MS Office and Raiser’s Edge
  • Flexible, attentive to detail, able to meet deadlines, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Work well with all levels of internal management and staff, including outside donors and board members
  • Ability to perform numerical and program analysis
  • Limited nights and weekends required
