Job Summary

At UpRise, we are on a mission to alleviate poverty in our community through education and redemptive relationships.  We believe that the local church should be at the forefront of this effort, reflecting God’s kingdom in word and deed. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Career Services plays a critical role in ensuring our student participants (“Leaders”) form a vision and reach their potential. The Director will use a variety of strategies to engage and support Leaders, while also helping them to secure job opportunities. In addition the Director will cultivate employment partners and provide to them a high level of service as they are matched with Leaders in launching new careers. 

Position Summary:  The Director of Career Services is responsible for placing participants into quality permanent jobs by identifying, developing, and managing a corporate pipeline while collaborating with established employment partners. This individual also works with Leaders to provide personalized guidance in several ways: planning for life, navigating barriers, making it through school, preparing for the job application process, securing a career job, developing work competencies and sustaining employment. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Training and Development

  • Meet with Leaders individually before and during Training Camp to detect and advise them on issues that could interfere with their successful completion of the program, and help direct Leaders to resources to assist them, while always striving for Leaders’ independence and accountability
  • Facilitate training classes for participants 
  • Exemplify and hold Leaders accountable to meet program values 

Education and Employment

  •  Work with Leaders to identify viable career pathways and plan next steps
  • Help oversee middle skills and direct placement (including potential apprenticeship opportunities) and internships
  • Provide oversight of Job Club and online and traditional Middle Skills classrooms
  • Assist Leaders in accessing financial assistance for education programs
  • Track Leaders’ progress through education programs
  • Facilitate submission of employment applications, interviewing and onboarding of Leaders into employment positions.
  • Manage a portfolio of Employer Partners across multiple sectors, to build strong partnerships and create scalable talent pipelines
  • Match employment partners with best available talent
  • Consistently follow up and communicate with Employment Partners
  • Conduct and host site visits
  • Co-facilitate trainings for Leaders to be prepared for the job search process
  • Complete accurate and timely data entry into Infusionsoft CRM 

Community Development

  • Attend and help facilitate Family Gatherings
  • Develop new community partnerships and bring new resources to bear as needed for UpRise Leaders (make introductions, refer Leaders to outside resources and track outcomes, etc.)
  • Help devise and implement best practice coaching strategies.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated passion and experience in helping individuals  understand their true value
  • Strong commitment to Christian faith
  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred; UpRise Nashville will consider meaningful educational, work and/or volunteer experience in exchange for degree requirements 
  • Business, sales, workforce development or training background preferred
  • Experience in building, establishing, and maintaining effective relationships with people of different cultures and backgrounds
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a small team setting
  • Strong, intuitive communicator who is comfortable presenting to, and engaging with people of different cultures and backgrounds
  • Excellent organizational and data collection skills
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • High energy and positive attitude; shows passion for UpRise Nashville’s mission
