Job Summary

Nashville International Center for Empowerment, established in 2005, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) ethnic community-based organization dedicated to ensure refugees and immigrants achieve their full potential now and for generations to come. The Community Engagement & Sponsorship Coordinator will report to the Director of Resettlement Services. The Community Engagement and Sponsorship Coordinator supports NICEs’ external engagement initiatives in the areas of volunteer management, community sponsorship, and in-kind giving. In partnership with leadership, the Community Engagement and Sponsorship Coordinator supports the development and retention of relationships with individuals, sponsors, and community partners to advance the mission NICE and its Resettlement Services Program, which supports refugees, immigrant, and asylees through a continuum of services. The Community Engagement and Sponsorship Coordinator supports the development and stewardship of relationships with communities, sponsors, and donors in order to build a broader base of support for NICE and NICE clients. This is a full time, 40 hour position.

Job Responsibilities

General Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development, refinement, and design of the new Community Engagement & Sponsorship Program for NICE, in conjunction with the NICE leadership team
  • Develop and implement refugee community sponsorship programming (pilot phase can be implemented to test and establish some of the baseline needs for refugees and sponsors)
  • Collaborate with staff in designing, planning, and implementing community engagement events such as donation drives and awareness raising campaigns
  • Cultivate relationships and encourage partnerships across organizations in Nashville and Middle Tennessee                                                                                                                          
  • Conduct community outreach across Middle Tennessee New American and refugee communities
  • Foster dialogues with communities (and leaders) and build collaborations to enhance community needs
  • Solicit partner agencies
  • Perform training sessions for partners
  • Track participation and development reports of achievement versus objectives 
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of best practices and policies related to refugee resettlement, immigration, trauma informed care, and the core principles outlined by the NICE leadership team
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending agency in-service programs, educational workshops, state and national trainings and conferences, reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks
  • Attend supervision, team, and organizational meetings, as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

Community Engagement Responsibilities:

  • Establish relationships with individuals, civic, and corporate partners, and public and private institutions who want to engage with and/or support NICE programming
  • Maintain contact with and plan appropriate activities with selected partners with established parameters

Sponsorship and In-Kind Giving Responsibilities:

  • Develop the refugee community sponsorship program by matching community groups with refugee individuals and families
  • Manage a community sponsorship program that plays an integral role in helping refugees become self-sufficient and get off to a strong start in their new home country
  • Work with community groups to recruit and prepare sponsors to provide support for refugees and families based on their needs and resources available
  • Create orientation and training content/applications for sponsors with the help of NICE leadership
  • Assist with the training, coaching, and mentoring of sponsors in all aspects of refugee sponsorship and work closely to monitor sponsors and sponsor groups to ensure program success
  • Provide program administration and support for the accurate and timely completion of all refugee sponsorship applications
  • Coordinate NICE’s donation procurement
  • Develop and streamline the donation procurement process
  • Manage planning and logistics, interaction with donors, and the distribution of contributions received in conjunction with other NICE staff

Requirements/Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with individuals and groups, including but not limited to public speaking and presentation skills
  • Communicate and listen effectively; establish action plans for constituent interactions; manage stakeholders with varying agendas with respect and relational competency
  • Develop project plans and realistic action plans; communicate changes and progress to stakeholders; complete projects on time and budget; manage project team activities
  • Excellent written and oral English proficiency
  • Excellent attention to detail; demonstrate experience interacting with diverse individuals and communities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM databases
  • Reliable transportation
  • Position requires availability to work regular hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand

Experience:

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience in building community engagement efforts in social work/non-profit management or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in non-profit settings; At least 3 years of experience working with refugee or immigrant populations is strongly preferred
