Job Summary

The Child and Family Advocate is responsible for ensuring that Davis House Child Advocacy Center maintains a child-friendly environment for investigative interviews with children and families dealing with allegations of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse. The Child and Family Advocate provides a variety of services to the children we serve as well as to the non-offending parent (s) or caregiver(s). The Child and Family Advocate serves as the primary point of contact to the family, shepherding them through the process and helping link them to the services they need. The Child and Family Advocate (CFA) serves as a liaison between the child/family and other members of the Child Protective Investigative Team (CPIT).

Job Responsibilities

• Provide court orientation to children and families who are faced with the possibility of testifying in court. This includes coordinating with the Victim Witness Coordinator and the District Attorney’s office handling the case.
• Maintain confidential case files on all clients of Davis House Child Advocacy Center.  This includes preparing timely, thorough, and accurate case notes of family advocacy sessions, data collection, data entry, and maintenance of the computerized case tracking system.
• Provide regular updates of child and family needs to other CAC staff and to the Child Protective Investigative Team.
• Distribute and document client satisfaction surveys on a regular schedule and document results in the database system.
• Supervise interns on a case-by-case basis.
• Participate in Davis House initiatives and activities, such as fundraisers and other campaigns or events.
• Assist with other duties as determined by the Executive Director and/or Program Director.

Qualifications

Educational and Professional Requirements:  B.S. Degree in a Social Work, Child Development, or other social services related field; experience working with children and families and in a team environment.

• Knowledgeable of impacts of trauma in children and families

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the multidisciplinary team approach to investigations of child abuse
• Knowledge of the research about and interplay of child abuse, neglect, and trauma 
• Understanding of community-based resources
