Job Summary
Friends of Shelby Park and Bottoms is governed by a passionate Board of Directors dedicated to improving our collective East Nashville greenspace. As a board member, you’ll help set policies, oversee operations, and protect the organization from conflicts of interest.
The board helps with:
- Defining our mission and purpose
- Strategic planning
- Financial management
- Fundraising
- Monitoring and evaluating programs and services
- Evaluating board performance
Job Responsibilities
Board members are expected to:
- Know our mission, policies, programs, and needs
- Understand and approve our financial statements and board materials
- Hold accountable the Executive Director & Staff
- Participate fully in one or more committees that align with your skills
- Advocate for the organization
- Use connections and resources to support our mission
Qualifications
ABOUT YOU:
We’re looking for people who:
- Live, work, or study in Davidson County
- Care about parks, nature, and community
- Value diversity and inclusion
- Bring unique skills and perspectives to support our mission
TIME & COMMITMENTS:
All board members are expected to:
- Attend six board meetings per year (~90 minutes each)
- Join six committee meetings per year (~60 minutes each)
- Commit to a two-year term, with up to two re-elections possible
- Contribute at least $1000 annually (via fundraising, donations, or volunteering time at FOS events)

The interview process will consist of 3 interviews- 2 with current board members and 1 with the Executive Director.
Board Directors will be selected by December 11.
