Job Summary

The mission of Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities, Inc. (YEAH!) is to welcome people of all backgrounds into a creative, collaborative community to amplify the voices of youth and underrepresented populations through educational arts and music programming.

The Spring Rock Block Band Manager (2 positions available) is responsible for working with beginner and intermediate youth music skill levels and leads a beginner ensemble and/or two intermediate bands. They will ensure that a supportive and positive environment develops in each student the skills, attitudes and values of Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities.

We’re seeking someone who will encourage and guide young people while challenging them to find their own voices, mutual goals and write original lyrics throughout the songwriting process. The Band Manager facilitates creating community through conversation and collaboration between small and large groups, in addition to providing instruction and support for participants. The Band Manager will also hold productive unplugged and plugged-in rehearsals in preparation for a showcase before friends, families and community partners. During the showcase and soundcheck, the Band Manager will be responsible for all backstage and onstage needs.

Program Participants

Beginner and Intermediate skilled youth ages 10 – 17

Program Dates

Sessions on Saturdays April 9th – May 21; Showcase on Saturday, May 28th (TTD)

Program Schedule

09:00 -10:30 – Group A Music – 1 group ensemble for beginners   

10:30 -12:00 – Group A & B Workshop (taught by Workshop Instructor)

12:00 – 01:30 – Group B Music – 2 bands for intermediate/advanced

 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with the Program Manager to plan program content;
  • Working with beginner and intermediate youth music skill levels;
  • Leading a beginner ensemble and/or two intermediate bands;
  • Encouraging and challenging youth to take risks, share, find and express their own voices;
  • Guiding participants to write original lyrics throughout the songwriting process;
  • Facilitating conversation and collaboration between small and large groups in addition to instruction and support for participants;
  • Holding productive unplugged and plugged-in rehearsals  
  • Coordinating with the Program Manager for the showcase at the end of the program with friends, families and community partners in attendance. 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of student growth and development;
  • Effective instructional strategies for beginners to advanced skill levels ;
  • Classroom management; program assessment and evaluation; 
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, positive, multi-tasking leadership; 
  • other, and encourage them to participate in games and activities;
  • Working knowledge of commercial music equipment, including but not limited to instruments, PA systems, amps, stands, and cables. 
  • Interested in alternative instruments and showing kids how to incorporate them into their music!

Benefits

The compensation for this position, an average of 24 hours of instruction and 8 hours of preparation, is $220 per week ($60 per instruction hour, $40 per prep hour).
