TENNCARE OVERVIEW

TennCare is Tennessee’s managed care Medicaid program that provides health insurance coverage to certain groups of low-income individuals such as pregnant women, children, caretaker relatives of young children, older adults, and adults with physical disabilities.  TennCare provides coverage for approximately 1.4 million Tennesseans and operates with an annual budget of approximately $12 billion.  It is run by the Division of TennCare with oversight and some funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

JOB AND DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW

The Division of TennCare is seeking a Legal Assistant in the Appeals Operation Group within Member Services. They will work under the immediate supervision of the Appeals Manager. THis Legal Assistant will be responsible for performing administrative functions on behalf of the Appeals Operations Group such as scheduling appeals for hearings, routing continuance requests as necessary, creating electronic records of appeal requests, arranging for translation services when appropriate, maintaining attorneys’ calendars, hearing calendars and the litigation timetables for attorneys. The Legal Assistant will also be responsible for researching, reviewing and implementing all court orders rendered from an appeal hearing. This position may also have to determine eligibility and/or extend Medicaid coverage to match order requests.

Job Responsibilities

 • Maintaining hearing and attorneys’ calendars as well as litigation timetables for attorneys

• Special projects

• Route continuance requests as necessary

• Create electronic records of appeal requests,

• Arrange for translation services when appropriate,

• Research, review and implement all court orders rendered from an appeal hearing

• Determine eligibility and/or extend Medicaid coverage to match order request

Qualifications

•  Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited college, university, or professional school with one of the following:

o  Associate’s Degree or 2 years of relevant experience or a combination of the two

•  Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines

•  Ability to exercise sound judgment

•  Ability to foster and maintain cohesive working relationships

•  Basic organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage workload to meet specific timeframes and deadlines

•  Developed writing and communication skills
