JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant is responsible for accuracy of financial information and adherence to GAAP. The Accountant reports to the CFO and oversees all aspects of the monthly financial close process. This position is responsible for reviewing and approving all journal postings, reconciling trial balance accounts, processing bi-monthly payroll, and assisting the CFO with reports and analyses. The Accountant monitors compliance with accounting principles and supports fiscal best practices throughout Park Center. As a key member of the Finance Department, the Accountant supports competency and continual development of job skills and responsibilities for all members of the team.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • General Ledger
    • Prepare monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, revenue accounts, and all balance sheet accounts.
    • Review general ledger activity regularly to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
    • Review and approve weekly accounts payable and accounts receivable postings.
    • Monitor and report on capital project spending to budget
    • Assists with monthly financial statement preparation
    • Prepares ad hoc reports and analysis as needed to support decision making
  • Payroll
    • Processes and posts bi-monthly payroll, including providing review of time and attendance, paid leave, and benefits withholding.
    • Processes changes to pay, benefits, and employment status in the payroll system.
    • Liaise with HR staff on all matters related to employee compensation, benefits, and taxes.
    • Ensures staff compliance with payroll policies and procedures. 
  • Insurance
    • Responsible for the annual property & liability insurance renewal process.
    • Communicates changes in insurance coverage with external brokers.
    • Responds to coverage inquiries and provides necessary documentation.
  • Annual Projects
    • Assists with and prepares documents for the annual agency budget process.
    • Assists with and prepares documents for all agency audits.
    • Develops and implements policies and procedures to create an effective system of internal control and accuracy.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Workers may be in a single or shared office environment in a building with a lot of program activity daily. 
  • Workers may be exposed to an interruption rich environment as tasks are done daily throughout the building.
  • Workers are subject to an open door policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sedentary work involves sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to work in a fast paced position with many deadlines and competing demands.
  • Can be stressful as responsible for the financial standing of organization
  • Employees are occasionally required to sit for long periods; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.  Visual ability to detect errors.
  • Worker may be required to limited travel within the city for trainings and or staff meetings

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role; non-profit experience preferred.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel and Word,
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Keen eye for detail and desire to probe further into data
  • Good communication skills and ability to develop strong working relationships
