Q:  What does the process of a consulting engagement with CNM look like?

A: Step 1: The client reaches out to connect with CNM using this link or by emailing consulting@cnm.org.

Step 2: Set up a discovery call with CNM’s Consulting Coordinator, Kyla Phillips, to hear the client organization’s needs, determine the project scale, and make recommendations.

Step 3: CNM’s consulting team will work to match the client with a consultant based on client preference, skill set, availability, area of need, and fit. Check out this page to learn about our experts and provide consultant preferences to our consulting team.

Step 4: CNM connects the client and consultant via email.

Step 5: The client and consultant set up a meeting to discuss project scope (i.e. Goals, deliverables, timeline, cost, etc.).

Step 6: CNM receives information on scope from the consultant and creates a proposal.

Step 7: Edits to the scope and timeline are made to the proposal (if necessary), and all parties approve the proposal.

Step 8: A contract is agreed upon and signed.

Step 9: The client and consultant carry out the project.

Step 10: The client stays in open communication with CNM and the consultant. Any changes to the project or scope require a signed amendment to the contract.

Step 11: Clients fill out evaluation upon project completion.

 

Q: How will my organization be matched with a consultant?

A: CNM matches clients with a consultant based on skill set, area of need and consultant familiarity, prior experience, facilitating style, availability, and client preference. Clients are encouraged to explore this page to familiarize themselves with our consultant experts and their project focus to provide input to CNM’s consulting team on consultants they would like to work with.

 

Q: What is included in the cost of the consulting engagement?

A: Three main components are included in the cost of the consulting project. First, consultant preparation time is included, which covers any time the consultant spends designing materials or deliverables, researching, and preparing for facilitation. Next, the cost covers the consultant time on- site, or time engaged with the client. Finally, the cost includes any follow-up required by the consultant such as emails, phone calls, and documentation. The time required for preparation, on-site meetings, and follow up is budgeted in the original scope and contract. Any changes in consultant’s time on the project must be made through a contract amendment.

 

Q: How long until my project begins?

A: Expect it to take 1 to 3 weeks from the initial discovery call to reach a proposal. This length of time can be quicker or shorter as it is dependent on the client and consultant schedules as well as project scope.

 

Q: How long does a consulting project take?

A: The length of a project is dependent on the type and scope of the project as well as client and consultant schedules. Time commitments can range from one-day facilitations to several month-long projects.

 

Q: How far in advance do I need to begin engaging with CNM?
A: If you are looking for a consultant to facilitate a meeting or complete a project on a specific date, reach out to CNM 3-4 months in advance. If it is closer to the date, CNM will do its best finding a consultant for your particular date and need, but cannot guarantee availability.

 

Q: How much should I expect to spend on a consulting project?
A: The cost of a project is dependent on the nature of the work. The more time needed on a project, the more the project will cost. However, no matter what your budget is we will do our best to meet it. CNM is conscious of limited budgets, but cutting down a consulting budget means cutting down on time and therefore deliverables. Not all needs will be covered in one consulting project, but a project scope can be designed to fit almost any of your budgeting needs.

 

Q: Are there scholarships available?
A: If you are funded by The HCA Foundation, The Healing Trust, West End Home Foundation, the Dan and Margaret Maddox Charitable Fund, or the Memorial Foundation, see this page for information on receiving scholarship funds through CNM's Nonprofit Excellence Fund.

 

Q: What other considerations should I have when starting a consulting project?
A: Seeking buy-in from your organization is critical. You will need buy-in from the leadership of the organization including the executive director and the board to have a successful consulting engagement and implementation.

 

Q: How do I prevent the consulting project from stalling?
A: Inevitably things will come up, but try not to schedule consulting engagements during especially busy times of the year, considering both your staff and board’s schedules.

 

Q: What if I want to change the scope or timeline of my project after the contract is signed?
A: Changing your project after signing a contract is easy to do as long as you have open communication with your consultant and CNM. To change the scope or timeline, including extending the project, an amendment is created and signed.
