AGENCY DESCRIPTION:

ESTN was founded in 2012 as a faith-based, not-for-profit organization for the purpose of community awareness and education. Since the founding, ESTN has grown to become one of the premier human trafficking survivor service agencies in the nation. On average, the agency receives over 250+ requests for service and assistance each year and maintains a total case load of over 40+ survivors living on our property or in the community. We hire and appoint persons who are committed to our mission to promote healing of human trafficking survivors and strategically confront the crime in our state. We strive to create an environment of faith and spirituality to restore hope and a lifetime of community. REPORTS TO: COO

POSITION SUMMARY: 

ESTN is seeking a qualified person to serve the agency as the Director of Development and External Relations (DOD). This person will lead ESTN’s effort and strategy to raise donated revenue by developing an overall fundraising plan through day-to-day activities. The (DOD) also leads the Development Team which includes an Events and Communications Specialist, Development Specialist, Senior Community Engagement Specialist, and Grant and Partnership Specialist. These activities include but are not limited to multi-channel communication to steward donors, mail and online solicitations, fundraising events, cause marketing, policies and procedures, record keeping, and support for active donors. An individual with high critical thinking skills, ability to handle multiple projects, remarkable interpersonal skills and exceptional written and verbal communications skills is required to be successful leading a skilled team at our growing agency. A high standard of professional and ethical conduct, integrity and accountability is paramount.

The office is also the Care Center where you will interact with survivors of human trafficking day to day. This issue is sensitive and complex. Every employee is trained in trauma-informed and strength-based approaches in order to connect with and build appropriate and encouraging relationships with survivors. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is carried out primarily in an office setting with intermittent sitting, standing, walking and some light physical activity. Most work is performed while sitting and using the computer, phone and engaged in face-to-face conversation with staff and/or clients. Some car travel and use of personal vehicle is required.

 

JOB TYPE:

Full time – 40 hours per week, but willing to work some evening and weekend hours, as required to accomplish the job.

SERVICE AREA & TRAVEL:

End Slavery Tennessee covers 41 counties throughout middle Tennessee. Routine day travel will be required, and mileage reimbursed. Occasional overnight travel for trainings and meetings may be necessary.

Job Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fund Development Planning and Strategy

  • Plans and implements, in coordination with the COO, CEO, other staff, volunteers and appropriate board committees, all fundraising activities of the organization.
  • Serves on the executive leadership team and actively participates in annual strategic and operational planningsessions.
  • Reports regularly to the COO and Board of Directors on the progress of the development and communications plan.
  • Regularly assesses fundraising activities to determine if benchmarks are being met.
  • Maintains and increases revenue sources through individuals, corporations, and grantors to support a 2.5+million-dollar operational budget. 
  • Works with Director of Finance Administration and COO on income planning for budget creation.
  • Completes all other assignments as required by the COO.

Major Gifts

  • Ensures that effective personal stewardship and cultivation plans are designed and carried out on an ongoing basis, providing and directing portfolio management.
  • Assists and supports COO, CEO, board members, staff and volunteers, to develop strategies for their major gift prospects.
  • With direction from the COO, supports agency through a 24-million-dollar capital campaign to achieve the vision of the Survivor Restoration Campus.
  • Develops and guides campaign strategies, creates targeted cultivation plans and solicitation strategies, and directs campaign committee meetings and events.

Annual Fund

  • Supervises the Development Specialist.
  • Directs team in managing and producing print and electronic appeals and publications, direct mail, monthly giving, major gifts, and planned giving appeals. Works with staff to review donor lists to ensure effective segmentation and coordination of mailing lists.
  • Coaches team in setting goals, measuring and managing progress, and fostering growth of donor base.
  • Maintains and improves a protocol for accepting gifts and oversees the gift acknowledgement process, including sending accurate and timely receipts (generally within 2 business days) and thanking donors appropriately and compliantly utilizing ESTN’s donor database (Network for Good).
  • Oversees in-kind giving process including but not limited to reporting, acknowledging goods or services, communicating needs, and accepting donations.

Public, Foundation & Corporate Grants

  • Supervises Grant and Partnership Specialist.
  • Researches potential grants and other new funding sources from individuals, foundations, organizations, and federal, state, and local governments.
  • Provides oversight ofproject management and writing of all grant requests and tracking, delegating work tostaff.
  • Provides oversight and enforcements of systems toensure accurate and complete data is collected and tracked for all reporting requirements.
  • Manages communications between current and prospective funders, keeping all well-informed of ESTN’s advancements and impact.

Community Engagement

  • Supervises the Senior Community Engagement Specialist.
  • Creates new strategies to enhance ESTN’s philanthropic and volunteer engagement partnerships.
  • Oversees training program for external partners in the community including but not limited to professional groups, churches, faith community organizations, businesses, non-profit partners, etc.
  • Enhances training programs and increases the giving pipeline through innovative community and awareness engagement opportunities.    
  • Supervises volunteer engagement and programs to aid the agency’s growing needs at the Survivor Restoration Campus.

Board Development Committee Management

  • Prepares fundraising plans and reports to the COO and appropriate Board committees, as directed.
  • Attends and leads bi-monthly campaign committee meetings and supports the recruitment of board membership through relationship building with constituency.
  • As directed by the COO, assists in the orientation of new Board members, volunteers and committee members. 

Direction on Marketing, Communicationsand Events

  • Supervises Communications & Events Specialist.
  • Oversees the creation and execution of the communication plan tied to ESTN mission, goals and strategies that includes key objectives, target audiences, messages, collateral needs, platforms,campaigns, and benchmarks of success.
  • Provides leadership and direction on rebranding implementation strategy and maintains consistent brand identity.
  • Oversees and provides leadership and strategic direction on all print collateral, website and online communications, social media presence, and all external communications tools.
  • Ensures donors, stakeholders, staff and board and other constituents are kept updated on the organization’s work, progress, challenges and accomplishments including development efforts.
  • Ensures that fundraising and donor stewardship plans coordinate with marketing activities.
  • Provides executive leadership and strategic direction to events (and volunteers) related to fundraising and marketing.
  • Oversees all fundraising events initiated by the organization and third parties.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree in related field required. In leu of Masters, significant experience/qualifications can be substituted for education at the Master’s level.
  • Three years of experience successfully managing a development team with demonstrated fundraising success.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in the development function of a successful non-profit organization, including significant donor interactions and with verifiable data supporting his/her contribution to successful fundraising activities at that organization.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to positively and successfully communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Experience asking for and acquiring gifts over $50,000.
  • Excellent one-on-one communication skills, and competent and confident speaking ability before volunteer and professional groups, with verifiable experience in these areas.
  • Ability to write and edit in a way that persuades donors and clearly communicates plans.
  • Verifiable skills preferred in some or all of the activities of event organization, major donor recruitment, donor solicitation, budgeting, and operations of a donor database.
  • Proficient with CRM software, Microsoft Office applications, and an aptitude to quickly learn.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Initial and subsequent random drug screening is required as per agency policy.
  • A background check is required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Base Salary:

  • $72,000–80,000 annual salary based on a combination of education and experience.  

Benefits:         

  • Healthcare stipend – $500.00/ month. Eligible after 30 days of employment. 
  • $150.00/ month for therapy 
  • 120 hours PTO accrued 10 hours/ month. Eligible after 30 days of employment.  
  • 96 hours sick leave accrued 4 hours/ pay period. Eligible after 30 days of employment. 
  • 13 paid holidays 
  • 4 floating holidays 
  • Short term disability, Long term disability, AD&D and Life insurance. 
  • Employer 403b match up to 1% of salary based on employee contributions and dependent on annual board vote. Eligible after 6 months of employment.
