Job Summary

Did you know that up to 40% of youth experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ?

Help Nashville LGBTQ+ Young Adults experiencing homelessness in this rewarding overnight position. Nashville Launch Pad is starting an innovative program which goes beyond our regular emergency shelter. Guests will be in small groups of six with overnight accommodations in apartments.

The small staff to guest ratio means you have a chance to make a real impact on a young person coming off the streets or fleeing rejection or abuse from an intolerant family.

Job Responsibilities

Your primary task is to create a welcoming, trauma-informed environment for the youth coming in at 8 pm, help them get settled and provide problem solving and a listening ear as needed.

You will need to be able to stay awake and alert throughout the entire shift, though you will be able to engage in any quite activities you enjoy during most of the overnight portion of the shift.

On some nights, you will prepare a simple supper, often with the assistance of a volunteer.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate should have:

The ability to work an overnight shift beginning at 8 pm and ending around 8 am one to three nights per week.

The ability to cook basic meals for 6, with advanced menu planning and groceries provided.

An even temperament with the ability to stay calm and problem-solve in a crisis.

A commitment to providing a safe and affirming space for LGBTQ youth.

A proven track record of reliability in a work environment, especially in terms of punctuality and minimal absences as well as communication of potential absences in a timely manner.

A strong sense of boundaries to keep relationships with guests professional and healthy.

The preferred candidate will have:

An understanding of poverty, either through lived experience or previous work or volunteer positions, especially as it connects to issues of race, gender and sexuality/gender.
