Job Summary

Disability Rights Tennessee (DRT) seeks an Advocate to provide legally based advocacy services to individuals with disabilities:

  • who seek assistance from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation or Centers for Independent Living
  • who receive social security benefits and have employment issues
  • during the voting process

This position will be based in the western half of Tennessee.  

Position requires occasional travel throughout the state, full vaccination against COVID-19, and ability to obtain clearance by the United States Government Office of Personnel Management.

Job Responsibilities

What You’ll Do 

  • interview individuals and review records
  • maintain clear documentation
  • participate in meetings to resolve client issues
  • identify and utilize federal laws/regulations and state program policies to resolve issues
  • conduct outreach, information gathering, and presentations
  • provide input into public policy efforts and revisions
  • participate in and provide professional development activities
  • participate in councils, boards, and committees


Keys to Success:  

  • Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, human services or related field preferred.  Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years or more of related experience will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. Extensive advocacy or related background may be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree.

  • The position is full-time (37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day)
  • In-office work will be required at times. Remote work will be allowed for this position.
  • The role will require occasional travel, and a valid driver’s license and insurance are necessary.
  • Home internet is required but technology will be provided by DRT.
  • This position is based in the western half of Tennessee. 
  • Successful candidate must be eligible to obtain government clearance by the United States Government Office of Personnel Management

The salary for this position ranges from $45,000 to $47,500. The exact salary depends on experience and skills.
