Oasis Center was founded in 1969, a group of young lawyers came together to establish the “Rap House,” a simple community center for runaway teens and youth struggling with addictions. Fifty years later, the “Rap House” has evolved into Oasis Center, where nearly 4,000 youth and families turn for help and direct support every year. Oasis Center provides a wide range of opportunities that reflect the diverse needs of youth and their families, from crisis intervention to youth leadership and community engagement to college and career access. Our 20+ programs and services are based on the foundation of four areas for youth success: SafetyBelongingEmpowerment, and Generosity.

Position: Shelter Coordinator

Hours:  4 day schedule – Sun/Mon 2-12 & Tues/Wed 2-10

Summary: To work in collaboration with the Senior Director to coordinate day-to-day operations, supervise and schedule relief staff and ensure licensing guidelines are met and up to date. To work in collaboration with the Outreach Manager to ensure alignment of service within the Crisis to Housing programs for youth under 17.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Provide supervision for shelter residents as scheduled.
  • Coordinate and supervise activities for residents when appropriate or assigned as needed.
  • Provide intake and assessment services to youth and families referred to the shelter program.
  • Participate in staff and program development.
  • Responsible for Shelter Staff schedule, ensuring all shifts are covered.
  • Supervise relief staff.
  • Assist in coordination of training of new staff, volunteers, interns, and relief staff.
  • Facilitate the preparation for monitoring visits by funding and licensing sources
  • Maintain consistent and timely records, including relevant reports to meet funding and licensing requirements.
  • Work with Senior Director to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with Oasis counselors, Shelter staff, and diversion case managers to coordinate the provision of supportive services outside of the Emergency Shelter.
  • Build relationships with other programs within Oasis Center; assure strong internal collaboration to maximize the impact of Oasis resources for young people.
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with referral sources.
  • Educate and inform partners and community stakeholders on Oasis Emergency Shelter.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
  • Ability to monitor client interaction visually and auditorily.
  • Ability to maneuver stairways.
  • Ability to form strong, caring and affirming relationships with all youth –including LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Clear understanding of racial inequities and other forms of discrimination and willingness to operate from an anti-oppression model.
  • Knowledge of an ability to apply Positive Youth Development, Trauma-Informed Care, and evidence-informed practices based in an understanding of adolescent development.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply behavior management techniques.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic counseling principals.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply group work theory.
  • Knowledge and ability to access community resources.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply crisis intervention theory.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Bachelors Degree & Two years experience, or six years relevant experience.
