Job Summary

About Turnip Green Creative Reuse

Turnip Green Creative Reuse (TGCR) is an arts and environmentalism nonprofit whose mission is to foster creativity and sustainability through reuse. TGCR opened in 2011 with a vision to provide a welcoming, inclusive space to divert materials from the landfill and connect them with people who need them. We serve artists, crafters and hobbyists, educators, environmentalists, students, and more! Located within the city core, our vision is to create a safe space to foster creativity and environmentalism through community outreach and educational initiatives. The heart of our organization is our Reuse Center, which includes a donation center, a pay-what-you-wish retail space, the Green Gallery, and a classroom/open studio space.

Nashville has shown an increased commitment to the arts in the past decade, as evidenced by the explosion of new artist collectives, galleries, public art projects, and visual and performing arts organizations. But, Nashville needs to improve in areas of environmental awareness and stewardship. TGCR hopes to foster and support increased engagement from the creative community to become part of the solution.

TGCR is deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility at all levels of governance, management, and operations.

About the Position

The Creative Reuse Center Manager is supervised by the Executive Director and oversees TGCR’s Creative Reuse Center, including its staff, operations, and routine care and maintenance of the building. Their primary responsibilities are to ensure TGCR’s material intake and output is streamlined and most effectively meeting community needs while being aligned with TGCR’s mission, core values, and strategic plan. Additionally, oversight of staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, reviews, and teambuilding are very important to the success of this role and of TGCR. The Creative Reuse Center Manager is highly communicative, collaborative, and creative to effectively make materials accessible to the community. The position requires adaptability and strong prioritization skills in order to balance the day-to-day operations that support our long-term goals in a dynamic environment.

The priorities of every member of the Creative Reuse Center team are to provide excellent customer service; to maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized retail space; to inform guests with news and information about current and upcoming TGCR events, programs, and workshops; and to further the mission and vision of TGCR by telling our story through our materials and their processing, and through our community and environmental impact. Working as a team, all staff in this area must be professional, flexible, even-keeled, and have the ability to interact easily with our diverse client base. Each member of the Reuse Center staff is an integral part of our operations and are often “the face” of our business. Positions in this division are primarily on-site and require availability to work on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

All staff at TGCR are expected to follow the principles outlined in Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity, by Kim Malone Scott. We are committed to direct, clear, and compassionate communication.
