The Tennessee Center for Health Workforce Development (TCWD) is a non-profit organization seeking to improve the health of Tennesseans by guiding healthcare workforce development in the state. TCWD’s focus areas include recruiting and placing primary care physicians in shortage areas, providing incentives to medical residents and advanced practice nurse practitioners in exchange for a commitment to work with underserved populations, providing incentive funds to practice sites to attract qualified caregivers, matching medical residents with rural rotations, addressing academic nursing challenges, and educating Tennessee students about healthcare professions. TCWD is a subsidiary of the Tennessee Hospital Association.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Workforce Development (DWD) is responsible for a wide range of duties in support of advancing TCWD’s mission to lead healthcare workforce development in Tennessee. The DWD oversees the Residency and Practice Site Incentive Programs, launches new initiatives and services as needed, and contributes to TCWD’s nursing and pipeline initiatives. In addition, the DWD identifies and maintains strategic partnerships in support of TCWD goals and increases statewide community engagement.
Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- The ability to adapt to a changing work environment and meet challenges presented throughout the day
- Assist in managing TCWD’s incentive programs, including fostering name recognition and interest in TCWD incentives with primary care residency programs, advanced practice nursing programs, psychiatry programs, partner organizations, and clinical practice sites
- Engage and educate interested parties about TCWD incentives
- Connect one-on-one with candidates interested in the incentive programs and assist through the application process
- Match candidates to jobs when needed and stay connected with both candidates and employers throughout the recruiting life cycle
- Develop and maintain relationships with in-state academic programs and clinical practice sites
- Assist with other TCWD initiatives and events, including:
- Introducing middle and high school students to healthcare careers and training opportunities in Tennessee
- Educating partners, policy makers, students, and others about workforce needs in the state, GME, and other relevant topics
- Assisting with brand and marketing projects as needed
- Lead or assist with other projects as needed
- Must be available for out-of-town travel, including overnight, approximately 20 percent of the time, be able to drive an automobile, and maintain a valid driver’s license. Travel may include, but not be limited to:
- Visiting Tennessee medical schools, residency programs, advanced practice nursing programs, partner organizations, hospitals, clinics, and other practice sites across the state
- Exhibiting at local and national industry conferences
- Make recommendations for additional TCWD programs and initiatives and launches new initiatives/services as approved
- Must be available in the office during regular office hours unless job responsibilities require otherwise, or hybrid work environment is in place
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Stay abreast of issues and resources that affect healthcare workforce development
- Participate and/or lead committees, webinars, and meetings
- Assist with projects as assigned, which may include white papers, grant applications, webinars, and videos

Qualifications
Educational and experience Requirements Needed to Perform the Duties of the Job:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience
