Job Summary
The Community Education Coordinator is responsible for development and implementation of community education services, public relations, media, and marketing in Cannon County. The Coordinator utilizes the Darkness to Light Curriculum to educate the community on child sexual abuse and also trains on child abuse, drug endangered children and the CAC program services. The Coordinator works as a team with the Executive Director, Accountant, and the CAC staff to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Center.
Job Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
Community Education
- Development and implementation of community education services in Cannon County
- Provide Darkness to Light Stewards of Children training to the community
- Community education presentations to schools, daycares, agencies, churches, CPIT Team, providing information on child abuse, child sexual abuse, drug endangered children, and CAC program services
- Recruit training sites for the Darkness to Light training
- Match training sites with trained facilitators
- Coordinate booths at community events and provide information on the CAC program services and the community education program
- Survey community education participants to assess the effectiveness of the Darkness to Light training
Networking
- Network with other organizations sharing information on the Darkness to Light training
- Attend community meetings, such as the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, Health Council, and the CACTN community educators’ meetings to network
Public Relations, Media, and Marketing
- Submit press releases to the media about child abuse and training
- Respond to radio and television requests
- Email the monthly newsletter
- Utilize social media to promote the CAC and Darkness to Light training
- Maintain the Child Advocacy Center website
- Develop program brochures
- Coordinate the media campaigns for 19 Days of Activism and Child Abuse Prevention month.
Volunteer Coordination
- Interview, screen, train, supervise, and evaluate community education volunteers and student interns
- Schedule the Darkness to Light and community education volunteer facilitator training
Evaluation
- Conduct pre-test and post-tests with Darkness to Light trainees
- Survey community education participants to assess the effectiveness of the training
Reporting
- Compile community education statistical reports for funding sources, Board of Directors, Children’s Advocacy Centers of Tennessee, National Children’s Alliance, CBCAP Grant, and Darkness to Light
Supervision
- Attend regular supervision meetings, staff meetings, and trainings
- Follow Child Advocacy Center policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned in a timely manner
- Reports directly to her supervisor, the Child Advocacy Center Accountant

- Public speaking and community education skills
- Writing, public relations, media, and marketing skills
- Working knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse and neglect, child sexual abuse, drug endangered children, domestic violence, substance abuse, parent-child interaction, child development
- Working knowledge of community resources and ability to use appropriately to meet individual’s needs
- Ability to effectively monitor client and community education participants interaction
- Communication and problem-solving skills
- Organizational skills to independently manage workload and related responsibilities
- Ability to function under pressure in crisis situations
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to work effectively with employees from other agencies and members of community groups
- Ability to work in a team environment where multiple players contribute to problem solving
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form
- Ability to operate a computer
- Must have reliable transportation with current Tennessee driver’s license, automobile insurance, and safe driving record
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- B.S. or B.A. in Social Work, Child Development, Health, or related field required
- Community education and volunteer supervision experience preferred
- Demonstrated maturity and experience
Special Requirements
- Must pass a check of the following: TBI background, FBI finger print background, Department of Children’s Services records, motor vehicle background, sex offender registry, drug offender registry, felony offender registry, and Department of Health abuse registry
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel in Cannon and Rutherford Counties to work
