Job Summary

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Donor Services Cultivation Manager for the Nashville Area Command, located in Nashville, Tennessee.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Development, creates and implements short-and-long term strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual mid-level donors.   Oversees a variety of mid-level donor and major donor activities and communications to maximize the organization’s resources effectively and efficiently while providing appropriate avenues for engaging and recruiting new donors; creates strategies to increase identified and potential donor support  ; prepares analysis of fundraising activities and donor giving patterns/purpose for development of cultivation and solicitation strategies., Ensures that all aspects of the donor database management system are used to maximize donor cultivation.  Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance and grow community engagement and investment by area corporations and churches within The Salvation Army programs.  Through community engagement strategies identify and engage groups in volunteer services.

Job Responsibilities

Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship of Donors (50%)

Implements stewardship and touch point strategies for a caseload of mid-level donors, as well as event attendees.

Works in coordination with the Donor Services Manager in developing cultivation and recognition strategy.

Manages and implements donor recognition benefits and provides unique engagement and cultivation opportunities for mid-level donors, as well as The William Booth Society for upper tier donors.

Executes strategically by building audiences through the gathering of state from the donor database to assess prospects, create prospect lists, and coordinate prospect review; working closely with the Director of Development to implement strategies that support on-going mid-level and event donor efforts.

Ensures that donor cultivation opportunities are maximized, and that record-keeping is integrated into the donor database system provides advice and technical assistance as needed.

Cultivates and manages ongoing relationships with current and prospective donors, specifically mid-level, and new donors.

Lead the stewardship actions that will increase giving by existing mid-level donors.

Responsible for solicitation of sponsors for special events as needs and opportunities arise.

Manages Grant Writing and Reporting to maximize revenue opportunity.

Collaborates with Communications & Development Manager on the recurring gift program.

Leads setting up presentations to churches, corporate, and community engagement groups.

Implements communications plan for mid-level donors and event attendees to steward them toward continued and increased giving.

Community Engagement Management (25%)

Responsible for building and maintaining a positive image and increasing public awareness of The Salvation Army programs

Identify potential opportunities throughout the community that will promote The Salvation Army name, increase brand awareness, and promote our programs and services

Develop a Speaking Circuit Calendar for civic groups, private/family foundations, corporations, and churches.

Cultivate and maintain relationships with local businesses, churches, universities, and civic groups to engage them throughout the year.

Assist with maintaining Interchange system for Donor Relations activity.

Volunteer Program Engagement: (10%)

Cultivates and maintains contacts with corporate, civic, and religious groups and colleges in order to educate the public about Salvation Army programs and recruit volunteers and donors.

Supports the Donor Services Assistant, in collaboration with Area Commander and Program Team, to identify and provide adequate number of volunteers for the Angel Tree program and the Red Kettle campaign.

Develops and implements procedures for effective use of volunteers in programs and monitors volunteer participation for effectiveness.

Recruits, screens, evaluates, and recognizes volunteers to ensure competent volunteer staff to enhance programs.  Terminates volunteers when appropriate, with the approval of the Executive Director of Development.

Leads the planning and execution of a yearly Volunteer Appreciation Event in partnership with the Donor Services Assistant.

St       Strategic Planning and Evaluation Responsibilities (10%)

Creates a comprehensive plan under the direction of the Executive Director of Development, in which the fundraising objectives of the   mid-level donor stewardship initiatives are prioritized and placed on a timeline where possible.

Works with the Executive Director of Development to create/maintain a strategic plan, budget, and method for evaluation of department’s activities and results as it relates to donor stewardship and community engagement.

Identify and conduct research on corporate and church resources.

Identifies and prioritizes the primary target audience of each area of engagement, determining the most effective mode of communication and/or solicitation.  To include area churches, corporations, and community organizations.

Works with the development team towards achieving annual revenue goals.

Other Responsibilities (5%):

Develops relationships with local and broader community to enhance donor development and support of operations for which this position is responsible.

Travels, as assigned, to represent The Salvation Army to support and enhance all development events and projects.

Conducts facility tours.

Responsible for attending program events at Area Corps locations, as needed, to maintain Development presence.

Assists in planning and executing special projects and events.

Participates in Advisory Board Committee Meetings as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, marketing, communication, liberal arts, or related field, and three years progressively responsible experience demonstrating a record of accomplishment in donor development, special events planning and managing, preferably in a non-profit setting or Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
