Job Summary

Homework Hotline seeks to remove barriers to high-quality, after-school academic support by connecting students with caring teachers via phone and online chat. Hotline’s Program Coordinator is a critical member of the team, overseeing the management and quality of the Hotline’s programs.

Job Responsibilities

The Homework Hotline Program Coordinator is a key member of the team. The Program Coordinator supports the management and quality of Homework Hotline’s programs through the following responsibilities: 

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the program(s) and provides ongoing feedback by monitoring progress and implementing improvements.
  • Raises the agency’s profile through external communications, community outreach, and tutoring sign-up and delivery.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate activities designed to create or maintain a favorable public image or raise issue awareness for their organization or client.

Leadership, Staff Management, and Organizational Strategy Responsibilities 

  • Directly train, supervise, and evaluate part-time staff, working closely with them to ensure they can effectively serve students via phone and multiple technology platforms. 
  • Support staff with any needs, including troubleshooting and taking student calls or chats as needed.
    Deploy resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals by creating staff schedules based on knowledge of budget, subject-level, and grade-level needs.
  • Maintain a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively toward mission and vision; clearly communicating this to staff. 
  • Determine staffing plans to achieve program goals and objectives and participate in hiring decisions for new tutoring staff.
  • Oversee and manage volunteers in both long-term projects and single-day events. 

Program Oversight and Evaluation Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate and oversee current Homework Hotline programs, including homework help, weekly tutoring, Sonic flashcards, and Hotline Scholars. Assist the ED in the implementation of future programs. 
  • Participate in weekly data dives to contribute to the ongoing evaluation of programming.
    Coordinate and analyze the appropriate data to inform the programmatic and operational decision-making process and report to school district partners.
  • Ensure the delivery of qualitative and quantitative goals and outcomes of the Homework Hotline. 
  • Establish annual program and staff goals and objectives and track results against these goals as well as accountability protocols.

Communication Responsibilities 

  • Communicate effectively with community partners, while seeking and growing new partnerships with schools, local nonprofits, etc.
  • Maintain clear communication with Hotline’s Board of Directors in coordination with the ED.
  • Contribute to Hotline social media (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) to communicate programmatic updates, celebrations, events, closures, etc

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in a nonprofit, government, or philanthropy environment, overseeing program(s), ideally at an organization impacting educational attainment or success of high-potential youth. 
  • Passion for Hotline’s mission and purpose and an ability to educate and inspire action in others.
  • Comfortable working events (such as festivals, back-to-school nights, etc.) outside regular work hours. 
  • Working knowledge of program planning, organizational structure, budgeting, and administrative tasks. 
  • High comfort level with technology and multitasking.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Education/teaching background. 
  • Additional helpful skills: organization, professional and creative writing, familiarity with social media, and public speaking.

Benefits

  • This position is a hybrid role with in-person and remote work.
  • Normally scheduled hours are Monday – Thursday.
  • Hotline programs follow the MNPS school calendar.
