Job Summary

College Success Mentors provide individual and group support for first-generation and low-income college students attending 4-year institutions of higher learning to support student persistence. The College Success Mentor maintains contact with a core caseload of students and organizes cohort activities to encourage peer-to-peer support.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works collaboratively with the lead post-secondary success coach to provide support to underclassmen enrolled in the PSS program on campus.
  • Plans, coordinates, and facilitates student social events once per month.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with college administration and student services groups.
  • Responsible for advocating for students as necessary.
  • Prepares weekly reports for a lead post-secondary coach.
  • Required to maintain data associated with all mentee meetings and events
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in Martha O’Bryan PSS Program and enrolled in TSU, MTSU, APSU, or Belmont.
  • Junior or Senior in good standing at your university.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Knowledge of campus-specific resources, locations, and services.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of college and community groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; and excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Maintains credibility through sincerity, honesty, and discretion.
