Job Summary
The individual will follow national protocols and leadership training to become proficient as a NAMI Program Coordinator. The Young Adult Program Coordinator is responsible for: Recruitment and Training of Presenters & Coordination of Presenters and Presentation Opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
- Assist with Grassroots, Volunteer training: review volunteer applications and complete screenings for program leaders for NAMI signature programs.
- Update databases for training prospects, trained presenters, and participant evaluations.
- Assist in securing volunteer data, preparing training manuals, shipping materials to trainees, and organizing materials post training.
- Assist with the NEXTGEN advisory group and provide member support.
- Coordinate youth and young adult outreach efforts utilizing a broad range of techniques and strategies including NAMI Tennessee’s website(s), social media platforms, email, phone, and in-person outreach (e.g., conferences, community events).
- Assist with NAMI On Campus inquiries and support affiliates/young adults through the club starting process.
- Secure opportunities for NAMI Tennessee to discuss youth and young adult mental health in Tennessee through conferences, presentations to schools and other community stakeholders, community partners and collaborators, local and state media, and other community events.
- Work with NAMI TN staff to design campaigns to recruit and engage new volunteers from young adult populations in Tennessee.
- Attend conferences, school presentations, and other community events to reach youth and young adults.
- Become a trained presenter in NAMI Ending the Silence, a NAMI Signature program & coordinate ETS presentation requests and/or support affiliates with coordinating presentations.
- Coordinate presenter trainings (2 to 3 trainings per year, per program) as needed. This includes establishing training dates, organizing all training logistics such as identification of and contracting with training team , work with NAMI Tennessee staff and local affiliate/support group leadership to identify and recruit new presenters, assisting training participants through the training portal for pre-requisite webinar training and Zoom training with State Trainers/ program coaching
- Training will be performed in accordance with procedures established by the Program Manager at NAMI National.
- Incorporate principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) in all outreach and engagement work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma; Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience; or have at least three years of paid or volunteer work experience dealing with mental health advocacy and peer support.
- Preference given to young adult individuals who identify as a peer and have been a recipient of mental health services for severe and persistent mental illness; should have insight and awareness into their mental health condition, committed to self-care, and the recovery process. Must have a minimum of one year in recovery absent of any psychiatric crisis or hospitalization.
- Preference given to individuals with experience in mental health advocacy, peer support, education, and/or NAMI’s programs.
- Preference given to individuals familiar with the TN public mental health service system and/or TN public education system.
- Preference given to NAMI program leaders/presenters and/or Certified Peer Recovery Specialists.
- Must be able to work within NAMI Tennessee’s normal office hours (Monday–Friday, 9 AM to 5PM) with some flexible hours given for evening and weekend work as required by the position.
- Must be well organized and can focus on multiple tasks and goals simultaneously with differing timelines and deadlines.
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working in an office setting and in a collaborative team model.
- Working knowledge in computers/computer programs using the Microsoft Office product suite (experience with MS 365 and MS Teams is a plus).
- Must have a valid TN driver’s license.
- Occasional in-state travel required.
- Must pass background check
