Job Summary
As Nashville’s only nonprofit veterinary clinic, Pet Community Center envisions a future where all pets are happy, healthy, and cared for by people whose lives they enrich. Our Director of Development and Communications plays a pivotal role in achieving that vision by engaging key stakeholders in making high-quality veterinary care accessible for all pets in our community.
The Director of Development and Communications is a visionary leader who specializes in high-level planning and strategy, providing critical expertise and support to the CEO and board of directors in achieving PCC’s strategic growth goals. This position oversees individual, planned, major, corporate, and foundation giving with a special emphasis on major gifts. Additionally, the Director of Development and Communications plans marketing and public relations initiatives to elevate awareness of Pet Community Center in the community.
Job Responsibilities
Fund Development
- Develops, implements, and evaluates annual fundraising strategies, plans, and policies to support PCC’s strategic growth goals.
- Cultivates and solicits charitable contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Develops and directs a major gift program and grows major giving annually.
- Creates and manages department budget; forecasts annual fundraising income and establishes goals tied to exceeding annual income forecasts and donor growth objectives.
- Provides strategic oversight of PCC’s key fundraising events, including major donor engagement, budget management, and event effectiveness
- Oversees the Development Manager in writing foundation grant proposals and working with the programs team to track data and report back to grant funders per funder guidelines.
- Manages and leads the fundraising committee.
Marketing
- Creates the annual marketing and PR plan to support community outreach programs and their goals, as well as elevating PCC’s visibility in the community.
- Oversees the Marketing Manager in facilitating clear and effective communication strategies that engage external audiences.
- Analyzes communications plans and makes recommendations for improvement to the CEO and to direct reports.
- Oversees and responds to crisis and conflict communication management in collaboration with the CEO.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of development experience in a nonprofit setting.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Prefer a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- Excellent planning and implementation skills.
- Proven success in individual, corporate, and foundation giving with experience of having measurably expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time.
- Experience supervising and working with a support team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, public speaking, and presentation skills.
