Job Summary

Edgehill Neighborhood Partnership (ENP) is a community-based nonprofit organization that offers an after-school program for middle and high school girls as well as the FreeStore which provides free household goods, personal hygiene and cleaning supplies, toys, books, and community to all who are interested. The Affordable Housing Project works with community members to advocate for equitable redevelopment of the Edgehill Apartments.

Under the supervision of the ENP Executive Director, the Youth Program Director (YPD) leads an afterschool program for disadvantaged adolescents in grades 6 – 12 providing social/emotional learning and academic tutoring. The YPD is responsible for the management, curriculum development, youth recruitment, family engagement, and supervision of program staff, interns, and volunteers. Currently, the program serves adolescent girls and is known as “the Spot”. The expectation is that the YPD will add programming for adolescent boys in the next 6 to 9 months.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Manage all aspects of the ENP after-school program including primary day-to-day responsibility.
  • Identify and implement appropriate curriculum for youth programs
  • Suggest outcome measurements and measure outcomes in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Support ENP’s efforts to seek outside funding for youth programs by contributing to the development of grant applications and other proposals.
  • Manage after-school program within the approved budget.
  • Ensure facilities are clean, organized, and conducive to effective programming.
  • Ensure the development of positive relationships with youth, their parents or guardians, teachers, and other community members.
  • Be the contact person with external service partners (e.g., Oasis Center, Salama, etc.)
  • Ensure that volunteers are recruited, receive background checks, are trained and supervised.
  • Manage the day-to-day scheduling and participation of interns and volunteers
  • Develop and implement an effective discipline policy.
  • Address and manage discipline issues promptly.
  • Serve as liaison with the site landlord regarding scheduling and use of the buildings.
  • As needed, provide updates for the ENP website and other informational materials, and program reports to the ENP Board; and perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the neighborhood

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following professional qualifications:

  • Passion and commitment to working with youth experiencing poverty.
  • Experience working as an educator or staff member in a youth focused program in an urban setting
  • A proven track record of effective teaching, curriculum development, and classroom management.
  • Experience managing and developing volunteer assistants.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with a wide variety of people including youth, volunteers, parents, teachers, and other ENP partners.
