Job Summary

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Executive Director, the Family Services Director will have full responsibility of overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of the programs within the respective departments of Youth, Family and Teen which may or may not include some revenue generating programs. Other responsibilities include income production, expense control, staff training, membership development, facility management, and fundraising.

Job Responsibilities

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Oversee budget, hiring, training and managing staff, instruction, and risk management
  • Proactively support a positive employee relations environment and support the open door policy
  • Maintain a clean, safe program service environment in all program areas
  • Evaluate results of various programs in relation to the programs purpose and specific goals
  • Represent YMCA programs in the community for the purpose of building collaborative relationships that strengthen programs
  • Supervise the development and maintenance of programs for membership service and producing revenue
  • Appraise employed personnel annually as to performance and responsibilities; and recommend salary adjustments
  • Participate as a key staff leader in the Annual Giving Campaign by telling YMCA story by recruiting, leading and supervising volunteers and securing charitable donations
  • Prepare annual program budget and monitor departmental budgets as assigned to ensure budgetary goals are met
  • Serve on center leadership team with the full-time staff; perform assigned “Manager on Duty” and other assigned responsibilities as part of the center’s leadership team
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions

Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, members and participants to create a culture of service within our Centers

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Four year college degree or comparable YMCA experience
  • Substantial experience in relationship development, staff hiring, training and leadership, and fiscal management

Certifications Required:

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
  • Before start of 1st shift: Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen
  • Within 30 days of hire: Membership Software training
  • Within 60 days of hire: Listen First training
