Position Summary:

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Y-CAP Operations Director, the Y-CAP Prevention Specialist is responsible for the administration, operation, and success of the Prevention Program through Williamson County.  S/he will assist with the development of quality programs and provide supervision and guidance to program staff to ensure all specific duties are carried out successfully.  S/he will serve as a positive role model, while assisting to maintain community relations, expense control and participant outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement character development and the YMCA core values in all programs and all aspects of YCAP operations
  • Facilitate and oversee Y-CAP after school programming and staffing, implement curriculum; ensure all program schedules are completed satisfactorily in a timely manner; comply with the program schedule, arriving to work daily on time and working as a flexible team player
  • Ensure that each site is staffed to meet the grant requirements for employee-to-child ratio by recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training staff
  • Develop and maintain partnerships within the community, including with but not limited to: the Williamson County and/or Franklin County Schools Administration, Transportation Departments
  • Lead and engage a group of children in activities either inside or outside program areas and during transition times
  • Coordinate service learning opportunities
  • Provide consistent and effective communication to families of students
  • Track Y-CAP attendance, intake forms and report data through online data management software, Apricot
  • Coordinate transportation for students if needed
  • Manage all grant, budget, variance reports and forecasting and accounting responsibilities within the guidelines of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee
  • Assist with the various administrative tasks, coordinate payroll process and complete all necessary reports; take inventory of and help purchase necessary supplies
  • Ensure the safety of all children at all times; know, understand, train & execute all program policies & emergency procedures associated w/ the program
  • Actively participate in the Annual Giving Campaign / center fundraising events to raise awareness and ongoing financial support for YCAP and outreach programs
  • Coordinate volunteers to assist in program lessons, meal program, and outreach events
  • Continued development for Standard Operating Procedures
  • Communicate programmatic events, schedules, and offerings to Y-CAP staff
  • Carry out special projects and events as assigned by leadership

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, versatility, and independent thinking
  • Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills; works comfortably with broad concepts and complex issues at individual, team, and organization-wide levels
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Experience implementing an SEL curriculum preferred
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education or a related field preferred or equivalent of work experience
  • Experience working with middle school youth required
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Able to travel to offsite program locations
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
