Job Summary

The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) is hiring a full-time West TN COVID-19 Organizer to work with our organizing team to provide community education about COVID-19 vaccines and connect individuals to TIRRC’s existing services, campaigns, and leadership development opportunities. The ideal candidate for this position is an established leader within immigrant and refugee communities in Memphis, with strong communication and organizational skills. This full-time non-exempt position based in Memphis would be temporary through the end of 2024.

Job Responsibilities

Vaccine Outreach Field Program: 

  • Create and manage vaccine outreach campaigns in Memphis to educate immigrant and refugee communities. 
  • Create and maintain an updated database of available vaccine clinics and pop up events in rural areas outside of Memphis. 
  • Build partnerships with clinics and health departments to make vaccines accessible to this population.
  • Community network and relationship building through community base building. 

Community Education:

  • Lead community education campaigns to ensure that immigrant and refugee communities have accurate and timely information about policy changes that impact the lives of their community.
  • Lead outreach efforts to immigrant and refugee communities about TIRRC’s services and leadership development opportunities. 
  • Coordinate the program, outreach, and logistics for meetings, actions, and strategic gatherings.

Community Engagement & Organizing: 

  • Develop and implement strategies to connect Memphis community members to TIRRC’s broader organizing work. 
  • Build a base of engaged leaders from diverse immigrant and refugee communities who can inform and lead TIRRC’s advocacy campaigns. 
  • Research, implement, and train organizational partners on a variety of relational organizing and vaccine education tools.
  • Hold individual and group meetings to develop strong working relationships with community leaders and identify important issues affecting the community.
  • Facilitate member groups in developing local strategy, tactics, outreach, and mobilization.
  • Represent TIRRC at community events, in the media, and with other organizations as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Belief in TIRRC’s mission and experience with social justice;
  • Fluency in English and Spanish or another language required;
  • Basic computer and internet skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office and video conferencing required;
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability and comfort with public speaking; 
  • Availability to travel and work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends;
  • Access to reliable transportation.
