Job Summary

The Volunteer Project Materials Coordinator (Coordinator) works as part of the Volunteer Project team to wrangle the supplies and materials required to engage 4,000+ volunteers annually in high-quality, impactful volunteer engagements across Nashville. The Coordinator is responsible for procuring materials, processing deliveries, and organizing project materials for 50-100 volunteer events annually.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Works as part of a team of 5+ to create volunteer engagements for business partners, community-wide initiatives, special events, and disaster response.
  • Assists Volunteer Project Team in placing orders and sourcing materials for volunteer engagements.
  • Receives deliveries and processes materials at the HON warehouse, including creating and maintaining an inventory system.
  • Pulls and organizes supplies and materials for specific projects, including lumber, hand tools, power tools, and any other items needed to complete the project.
  • Assists with materials setup/breakdown at volunteer events and leads volunteers.
  • Establishes a regular cadence of maintenance for HON’s project vehicles.
  • Looks for opportunities to better leverage existing materials, reduce waste, and establish robust recycling processes.
  • Lead warehouse cleaning and maintenance activities

  • In times of disaster, supports use of HON tools and materials in disaster response and recovery efforts.
  • Other duties, as assigned

 

Universal HON Team Functions (Nonessential)

  • Represents HON in the community and provide the highest levels of customer service to volunteers, community partners, corporate partners, and all persons encountered during the course of other duties
  • Supports Hands On Nashville fundraising and volunteer events
  • Provides volunteer leadership for disaster response activities, corporate projects and special events, as needed
  • Collaborates on the creation promotional, social media content, and other story-telling needs
  • Participates in community volunteer efforts to improve understanding of the volunteer experience and community needs
  • Participates in staff team-building and professional development activities

Qualifications

About You

  • Passionate about organization
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability (or interest in learning) to lead volunteers
  • Comfortable using power tools (drills, saws, augers, etc.) and driving tow-behind trailers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.

 

Requirements

  • High School diploma with 3+ years experience working in a warehouse, hardware store, or other environment that provides experience managing materials.
  • Criminal history background check clearance.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle. Staff are reimbursed for work-related mileage.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds and perform repetitive squatting, bending, and twisting motions.
  • Works indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

  • Requires sitting and standing for long periods of time

  • Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends and to increase hours during response.
