Job Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, managing, maintaining and providing volunteers across NAMI Davidson’s support, education and awareness programs, and its special events. This person  will respond to individual and group volunteer inquiries, those related to internship, and those related to court adjudicated service. This position works in close collaboration with the Program, Recovery, Youth and Walk Coordinators, to recruit volunteers for program service, event participation, and administrative support. They report directly to the Executive Director. The Volunteer Coordinator will promote volunteer opportunities through various media channels, and will train to use the database at Hands on Nashville for occasional use. This position will also be responsible for hosting internal volunteer events for alumni of NAMI Davidson programs. The Volunteer Coordinator is a member of the NAMIWalks Greater Nashville Committee, responsible for staffing the various volunteer positions required for the successful outcome of the event. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Prospects, recruits and assists in the development, and management of volunteers
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with other staff to further agency goals
  • Responds to volunteer inquiries across multiple mediums
  • Meets at least weekly with the Executive Director to report on goals, strategize, and seek support
  • Liaison to Hands on Nashville, AmeriCorps, or other volunteer-based organizations
  • Responsible for staffing volunteers for fundraisers and outreach activities with input from other staff
  • Other duties as requested.

  • Comfortable reaching out to people from all walks of life with nonjudgement, grace and openness
  • Able to redirect candidates who may be  inappropriate for particular volunteer roles into other opportunities with tact, respect, and the support of the Executive Director.
  • Creative thinker for development of other volunteer opportunities with groups
  • Enthusiastic cheerleader to rally people to participate in special events

Requirements:

  • High Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel (will be tested), with knowledge of PowerPoint helpful
  • Well organized, neat with an ability to prepare, collate, organize and maintain files, including remotely
  • Google Suites, texting, and experience or aptitude to learn other data management platforms.
  • Able to lift 25 pounds and pull or tote materials for trainings
  • Reliable personal transportation for timely attendance at the office and events
  • Job requires In office on Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as occasional evenings or Saturdays for volunteer inservices, reunions, events, and recognition. Job requires 30 hours per week, with additional hours during the month of May. 
  • Must participate as part of the NAMIWalks Greater Nashville Walk Committee virtually on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 10 am. 
  • Must have good quality home internet to be able to work virtually, otherwise hours are in the office.
