Job Summary

SUMMARY

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for supporting our Nurture® TN mother mentors, interns, events and corporate volunteer programming, and activities that further fundraising for Nurture the Next (NTN).  This would include further building of our internship, volunteer, and development programs. It is anticipated that time allocations for this role shall be as follows, 75% Volunteer Programming and 25% Development Assistance.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Nurture TN
    • Training and onboarding new mother mentors
    • Recruiting mother mentors and program participants
    • Working on Salesforce integration, e.g., maintaining accurate records and timesheets for this program
    • Identifying areas for operational improvement, paying particular attention to the performance of mother mentors by providing monthly scorecards and making recommendations on programmatic development to the Program Officer (PO)
    • Providing ongoing Training/Technical Assistance (T/TA) to mother mentors
    • Identifying and employing the best communications strategy for keeping in touch with mother mentors on a regular basis, e.g., GroupMe, private Facebook group, etc.
    • Scheduling and planning quarterly connection events for mother mentors to engage with NTN and one another
  • Internship, event, and corporate volunteer programming
    • Internship programming
      • Meeting with leadership and other staff members to determine needs and capacity for each semester/year
      • Networking with colleges and universities statewide to identify the best candidates to meet the needs of our org
      • Coordinating interviews of candidates with supervisors/task managers
      • Making recommendations to supervisors/task managers on candidates to fill available internships
      • Providing functional oversight of NTN’s interns throughout the duration of their stay, e.g., onboarding and training, populating calendars with meaningful opportunities for professional development and social networking, etc.
      • Facilitating collaboration between supervisors/task managers and their interns
      • Other duties that will contribute to a positive, reciprocal relationship between interns and NTN
    • Event and corporate volunteer programming
      • Responsible for strengthening NTN’s volunteer base and helping cultivate the pipeline for supporters and past-program recipients to actively engage in NTN’s mission, vision, and strategic imperatives
      • Engaging with staff at all levels to identify immediate and future volunteer needs and filling those needs ad hoc for NTN
      • Organizing volunteers (both individual and corporate) for fundraising events and projects
      • Networking in the community to promote opportunities to volunteer with NTN
      • Planning events to recruit volunteers and providing opportunities for them to connect
      • Gathering information about volunteer skills, availability, and goals and matching volunteers with appropriate opportunities based on this data
    • Overall
      • Screening, vetting, and onboarding volunteers
      • Providing monthly reporting of in-kind hours to fulfill contract requirements
      • Developing meaningful relationships to advance our brand, increase our donors, and multiply our mission
      • Hosting monthly connection events for NTN’s interns and ad hoc connection events for our other volunteers, e.g., cultivating consistent supporter engagement and return on investment (ROI)
      • Overseeing Salesforce reporting and data aspects, e.g., maintaining accurate records and timesheets
      • Reviewing and updating all volunteer and internship handbooks on a yearly basis or as needed
    • Attending quarterly site visits in appropriate region
    • Following organizational policies
    • Participating in agency ad-hoc committees as appropriate and needed
    • Respecting and maintaining confidential information in all situations
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Development assistance
    • Supporting development events by identifying and coordinating volunteers for event prep, day-of event support, and post-event follow-ups. Examples of development events include Year-End Appeal, Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Fundraisers, etc.
    • When pertinent, attending fundraising event planning committee meetings, e.g., to offer input and learn about upcoming development event needs
    • Coordinating with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) on recruiting, engaging, and retaining corporate partners and donors as volunteers, e.g., this role will be included in corporate partner initiatives when volunteers are a part of the picture
    • This role will assist in coordinating and tracking “Drives” for the purposes of helping to build ongoing volunteer-led partnerships
      • Some corporate partners and donors give to NTN by collecting diapers, toys, and other baby items within their organization on our behalf. This is particularly true around the holidays

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • This role will work very closely with both the PO and CDO. Must be comfortable working with and taking direction from senior and core leadership to accomplish org goals together
  • Must be flexible with work hours, as events with volunteers, donors, and corporate entities may or may not occur during the 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. workday
  • The person who will succeed in this role will be exceptionally organized with a great attitude. Being both a people person (strong interpersonal and relational skills) and a detail-oriented person (no stone left unturned) will serve them well
  • Individuals in this role must be innovative, responsive, self-directed, and collaborative
  • Other qualifications:
    • Prior experience in nonprofit and/or social services settings is preferred
    • Volunteer and/or development experience is preferred

    • Proficiency with multiple databases, operating systems, and project management software, and/or ability to learn new platforms quickly
    • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field; 2-3 years’ experience in managing volunteers

The noise level varies by sites, home visits, and meetings.
