Job Summary
The Justice Fellowship program gives recent college graduates a unique opportunity to help low-income Tennessee families access health care coverage and food security. The Tennessee Justice Center, founded in 1995, is a nonprofit organization based in Nashville, Tennessee. TJC uses the law and advocacy to ensure that Tennesseans can meet their most basic needs and have a pathway to opportunity. Past TJC staff and fellows have gone on to attend top law schools, become partners at the nation’s most prestigious firms, and work at the highest levels of government and nonprofits.
Job Responsibilities
The Justice Fellow is responsible for interviewing and supporting clients, conferring with attorneys on cases, identifying systemic issues in need of change, building relationships with community organizations, and providing technical assistance to partners. The fellowship is a full-time position for two years. Fellows work closely with TJC attorneys and advocates.
The program includes significant professional development opportunities and is designed to train future leaders in law, public policy, health care, and health and nutrition advocacy. Fellows will be a part of the client advocacy team. This team helps individuals trying to access necessary food and health support and aims to identify and address systemic issues facing Tennesseans in accessing the basic necessities of life.
Qualifications
Eligibility Requirements
- Undergraduate degree completed by June 2020 or within the last 2 years;
- Demonstrated interest in health, nutrition, law, or other social service/justice work;
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills;
- Organized and detail-oriented;
- Flexible team player;
- 2020 Fellows should be available to start between July 15 and August 1 of 2020, and should be available through June/July of 2022.
