Job Summary

 

Position Objective: The teacher is responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom.. The teacher encourages creativity and high-order thinking in a way that increases student performance.  The teacher is an emotionally mature and nurturing individual with knowledge of children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. The teacher has knowledge of locally, state, regionally based resources and the ability to make decisions in accordance with established procedures.  The teacher establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with the students, the families, the work family, and the community.

Job Responsibilities

 

General Functions:

  • Ensures holistic development and welfare of all children.
  • Maintains appropriate classroom practices.
  • Makes decisions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Follows EAFEC and partnership program policies in work conduct including but not limited to travel and attendance, etc.
  • Keeps clear and organized documentation of educational and outreach services. (Teaching Strategies GOLD, FrogStreet Press Inc., Creative Curriculum, CACFP, etc.)
  • Follows health regulations in accordance with the Office of Head Start and DHS standards.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the safety of the EAFEC family and its culture.
  • Other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Educational Support:

  • Implements all aspects of the Early Head Start and Read to Succeed programs.
  • Coordinates and implements educational curricula (Creative Curriculum, Frog Street Press Inc., Conscious Discipline).
  • Submits lesson plans and intervention plans to all appropriate parties.
  • Prepares and presents educational materials to support center-based and home-based activities.
  • Ensures child development screenings and assessments (well babies, ASQ-2, ASQ-3, Teaching Strategies GOLD) are complete and data is utilized to facilitate growth.
  • Responsible for planning and executing appropriate activities and learning environments in accordance with ITERS-R, ECERS-R and NAEYC accreditation.
  • Ensure the playground checklist is conducted daily and filed in designated binder.
  • Ensures classrooms are meeting all guidelines outlined on the Quality Assurance/Read To Succeed Checklists.
  • Assures that all children and families with special needs receive accommodations in accordance with ADA, IDEA, Part C, LEA, Head Start Performance Standards and Read to Succeed.
  • Ensures all records are kept confidential

Stakeholder Communications: 

  • Participates in meetings involving children and families to help assess, plan, and coordinate core service delivery.
  • Maintains communication with supervisors and parents pertaining to the development of the children.
  • Maintains at least 85% attendance rate.
  • Attends organization’s and partnership meetings as needed.
  • Serves as an advocate for Tennessee CAREs program and families served.
  • Protects and maintains confidentiality of all TN CAREs matters and family information.
  • Participates in program group activities, such as parent meetings, advisory committee meetings, and family social events as appropriate and assigned.
  • Recruits families as needed and informs families of assignment.
  • Ensures each family has a quarterly IFPA/GOLD Portfolio.
  • Monitors and ensures all confidential records are safely stored.
  • Works collaboratively with EHS/RTS partners to ensure programmatic success.

Family Engagement:

  • Communicates with families daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly to increase family engagement, involvement, and partnerships.
  • Attends monthly family workshops to promote relationship building
  • Shares family activity calendars/PATT Mats/ and other curricula information to facilitate participation in the academic experience.
  • Conducts parent conferences thrice a year, ongoing family communication, and home visits as required.

Professional Development

  • Attends and utilizes methodologies from multiple professional development opportunities yearly in order to stay abreast of current trends and be a subject matter expert on early childhood education and classroom best practices.
  • Researches early childhood education trends including literacy, STEAM, DAP, DLL, and social/emotional and brain development and applies the knowledge to the program in order to assist teachers in achieving learning outcomes for students and their families.
  • Explores and identifies education best practices, techniques, and advancements to ensure teachers are being given the best tools to continue to advance the program and to guarantee program standards and licensure requirements are being maintained.
  • Monitors a professional portfolio to determine the best way to support personal professional development.

Qualifications

 

Education:

  • H.S. with 2  years applicable experience required.
  • Child Development Associate Certificate, BA/BS or Master’s Degree in early childhood education, child development, or family studies preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of inan early childhood education or education setting.
  • Direct curriculum implementation and instruction in a professional early childhood environment
  • Student and classroom assessments
  • Small group and differentiated instruction
  • Experience serving overburdened and underserved populations
  • Strong oral and written communications and technology skills.
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of child development.

  • Early Childhood Curriculum (From birth to grade 3) (FrogStreet Press Inc., Creative Curriculum, and Conscious Discipline)
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences and Environments (ACEs)
