Director, Alumni Talent & Leadership

The ultimate goal of the Director, Alumni Talent and Leadership is to strengthen the ability of alumni to lead by building strategic partnerships and developing pathways that allow alumni to access roles and careers involved in education systems change. This will include building relationships with local alumni, collaborating on team efforts to build a connected and thriving alumni network, and cultivating partnerships with schools and mission-aligned community organization to help match alumni with their desired leadership pathway and/or career.

We are looking for an experienced networker and organizer who draws energy from finding and creating mutually beneficial connections between people and organizations. You are a community builder and natural networker, motivated by bringing people together. You also enjoy the challenge of recruitment, and use a passionate, systematic approach to excite others about educational opportunities in Nashville and Chattanooga. The Director, Alumni Talent and Leadership will have a demonstrated ability to drive results in pursuit of ambitious goals, while balancing a deep commitment to individual relationships. They will have an entrepreneurial spirit that derives energy by succeeding where there is no precedent. The Director, Alumni Talent and Leadership believes in the incredible potential of Teach For America alumni as individuals and as a network, and views their role in the fight for educational equity as serving, developing, and catalyzing adults who serve students and communities.

·         Manage a portfolio of alumni educators to build and deepen relationships with individual TFA alumni, to identify opportunities (roles, mentorship, development, etc.) to deepen or expand their leadership, and to assist alumni with short- and long-term career goals.

·         Serve as an organizer, facilitator, and coordinator of alumni educator cohorts to build deeper connections among alumni, and to create pathways for alumni to lead and support each other with issues of educational equity.

·         Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools and mission-aligned organizations to support and access leadership advancement pathways for alumni, with a specific focus on leadership roles impacting education.

Education Leadership and Talent Development (50%)

·         Lead the design and execution of alumni education leadership programing, including designing leadership development, cultivating and recruiting program participants, engaging participants in program outcomes, developing and managing critical community partnerships, and tracking impact and outcomes.

·         Work in partnership with the regional Alumni Leadership Team and TFA’s Alumni Career Center to communicate and leverage career resources for alumni job seekers, including resume support, interview preparation, local and national alumni job boards, and career pathways.

·         Identify opportunities and create strategies to increase alumni membership and participation in policy and advocacy leadership programs, such as Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE).

Regional and Organizational Stewardship (15%)

·         Collaborate with and support regional initiatives as needed, while maintaining a commitment to team goals and priorities. Participate in events within and outside of your team, such as regional retreats and regional team meetings, and other programming.

·         Engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion conversations for ongoing personal reflection and learning, acknowledging that we are never done learning and growing.

·         Bachelor’s degree required

·         5  years relevant work experience (school administration and adult learning design, facilitation or program management) required

·         Deep connection or network in Nashville education landscape highly preferred

·         Teach For America corps member and/or staff member experience strongly preferred

Work Demands

·         Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and early mornings.

·         Willingness to travel to and from in-person meetings throughout Nashville as well as occasional events in Chattanooga.

·         Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to tailor approach to diverse groups and engage, motivate, and inspire others to action through written communication

·          Ability to set program outcomes, determine measures of success, analyze data, draw conclusions, and inform continuous improvement and adjustments based on learner feedback and program impact.

·         Strong project management skills and an ability to handle multiple projects with competing priorities to achieve ambitious goals.

·         Strong understanding of the dynamics of race and class in America and a history of operating in the spirit of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
