Job Summary
Teach Reading this Summer!
East Nashville Hope Exchange is seeking Teachers and Assistant Teachers for our unique and vibrant summer literacy program. Our mission is to strengthen literacy of at-risk children in East Nashville.
ENHE works with struggling readers in rising K – 4th grade and their families to provide year-round support.
We host monthly workshops for families during the school year, limited tutoring, and a 6-week summer program for students. Students read lots of books, build their literacy skills, receive books for their home libraries, go on weekly fieldtrips, and do many, many fun activities!
Job Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Academic Responsibilities:
- Assist with classroom responsibilities under the direction of the teacher
- Teach reading skills in small groups
- Assist teachers, lead teacher, and program director outside classroom as needed
- Make materials needed for the program
- Help teach during activity time
Mealtime Responsibilities:
- Monitor children during meal times and when on field trips
- Serve students food
- Clean eating area each time students eat
Other Responsibilities
- Attend and participate Family Participation events
- Relate to everyone in a cheerful, positive manner
- Be a positive role model for the students
- Follow directions immediately
- Have fun with the students within behavior boundaries
- Attend and participate in staff orientation, meetings, and end-of-program debriefing sessions
- Assist students in using conflict resolution techniques when dealing with others
- Implement preparation and distribution of snacks and meals each day
- Assist in overseeing students during field trips and through the program
- Assist in clean up and inventory at the end of the program
- Actively participate in all East Nashville Hope Exchange events
- Report to work each day on time
- Help keep the area clean
- Provide proof of current pediatric CPR/First Aid certification prior to the start of the program. If not currently certified, East Nashville Hope Exchange will reimburse the cost with proper receipt and proof of certification.
Qualifications
High School Graduate
Preferrably college student or childcare certification
Experience working with children in a school setting

2021 SUMMER Program Schedule
Teacher Training: Thursday, May 27 – Saturday, May 29
Student Program Dates: June 1, 2021 – July 9, 2021; 8am-3pm (aftercare available)
Teacher Wrap-Up: July 12-14
Teacher: $5,500 per Session; Requires Teaching Certificate & Strong Classroom Management
Assistant Teacher: $3,500-$4,000 Depending on Experience; College Student or Graduate in Elementary Education
