Job Summary
OTN’s Street Outreach & Resource Navigator for East Nashville will utilize evidence based practices to build relationships with people experiencing homelessness and help them navigate and obtain resources, services, and housing.
Job Responsibilities
- Making contact and building relationships with people experiencing homelessness on the east side of Nashville while providing resources, referrals, and outreach support
- Creatively networking resources to open up opportunities for housing and other critical services
- Navigating complex social services with people so they can obtain needed resources like identification documents, healthcare, food assistance, transportation, housing, and other needed services and supplies
- Staying up-to-date on encampments on the East side and visiting them regularly
- Serving as a Housing Navigator to help people move from the streets to permanent housing
- Attending weekly staff and outreach meetings and relevant community meetings
- Serving as the lead person for Winter Canvassing efforts on the East side which will involve working some evenings (instead of daytime hours) in the winter months
- Collaborate with partner organizations and faith communities in East Nashville, Inglewood, and Madison
- Transporting people as needed
- Inputting and managing information in OTN’s databases and other databases that are required for some housing assistance (like HMIS)
- Assisting with other staff tasks like rotating office chores, contributions to social media content, occasional help with fundraising efforts, engagement with volunteers and supporters, and a general spirit of teamwork and collaboration
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field AND two years of direct service with people experiencing homelessness and poverty OR any equivalent combination of experience/education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been gained
- Alignment with OTN’s Mission Statement and Core Values
- Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle
- Experience in homeless outreach or homeless services and/or case management in a related field
- Demonstrated compassion for people who have experienced trauma, discrimination, and oppression and who struggle with intensive mental and physical health needs, addiction, and behavioral health issues
- Knowledge of (or willingness to be trained in) evidence based practices including Trauma-Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing
- Willingness to embrace and journey alongside people from all walks of life in an interfaith setting
- Proficiency in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and data tracking and management systems
- Self motivated and organized
- Dedication to working for justice
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to collaborate well with others and be a strong team player
- Guiding care and concern for the unity and well-being of OTN
