Job Summary

The Staff Accountant II position entails advanced responsibility for a variety of accounting functions: financial reporting; budget preparation; duties related to investment oversight; fund establishment and account maintenance. The successful candidate will be both a strategic thinker and a hands-on implementer – comfortable with creating projections and reports, reconciling a variety of financial accounts, as well as data-entry. They must have a strong commitment to transparency and accountability in our organization’s fiscal practices to help ensure our promise to donors, team members, and the community to ground our work in trust. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing the annual operating budget and forecasts, and monitor actual performance against the approved budget. 
  • Compile reports for the annual audit and tax return as needed. 
  • Assist in preparing financial statements for all regular and annual meetings of the Board of Directors and Investment and Finance Committee. 
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations. 
  • Prepare, compile, and file all reports, statements, statistics, and other data as required. 
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in financial operations. 
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall organizational goals. 
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and relevant regulations. 
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities. 
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement. 
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely filing of all tax returns and regulatory reports. 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of financial processes and procedures. 
  • Support the CFO and Controller in strategic financial planning and decision-making. 

Qualifications

Minimum requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or CMA preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience. 
  • Proficient with computers and software, particularly Microsoft Excel. 
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Strong administrative, accounting, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an open office environment. 
  • Comfortable in a work setting that is open to the community and hosts frequent gatherings. 
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
