NAMI Tennessee is one of 50 State Organizations of NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

NAMI Tennessee is a recently realigned organization serving the state of Tennessee and our 18 local NAMI Affiliates in local communities throughout the state. Together with new leadership and an inspired staff and volunteer leadership, we are poised for community expansion.  

Position Description–NAMI Tennessee is seeking an organized, creative, and motivated professional to be responsible for financials in the Hendersonville, TN office.

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for accounting activities including accounts payable and receivables, auditing support, compliance, month-end close, and special projects. This also includes monthly government contract billing, reconciliation of affiliate chapter accounts, invoicing, vendor management, and staff expense and credit card reconciliation report filing. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Accounts Receivable and payable
  • Bill payment
  • Payroll
  • General Ledger 
  • Appropriate allocation of invoices to grants
  • Documents management for all financial actions consistent with grant requirements
  • Ability to coordinate with the Executive Director and our Now CFO subcontracted Comptroller 

Position Requirements 

  • Is kind and embraces servant leadership qualities
  • Associate’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred  
  • At least two years of related experience required 
  • Experience working in nonprofit accounting, including experience in grant and contract management, and reporting financial data for multiple grant funders preferred  
  • Government and Fund accounting experience preferred 
  • GL accounting experience and external reporting and compliance experience 
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to focus on details 
  • Quickbooks, MS Office, and TEAMS proficiency required 
  • Excellent communication skills
