Job Summary

A Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance through preparation of a company’s reports and statements. 

Staff Accountant will manage accounts payable, prepare and input payroll, prepare and enter general ledger.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Finance & Accounting

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of accounting functions.
  • Support Programs Department with financial processes from budgeting to closing wishes.
  • Review and approve donation batches that have integrated to NetSuite (financial system) from Raiser’s Edge (donor processing system).
  • Review check request for proper coding and approvals.
  • Process payroll.
  • Record and process monthly purchase card payment.
  • Set up all vendors.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review trial balance for accuracy and completeness.
  • Record and posts journal entries for monthly financial activity.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reporting package including monthly variance report.
  • Respond to inquiries from chapter staff.
  • Coordinate information and documents for annual audit process and 990.
  • Prepare chapter’s audit workbooks and 990 portal and is point person for all audits.
  • Assist with creating custom reports and queries in NetSuite, and/or Excel, as requested.
  • Lead month-end close process in a timely manner. 
  • Identify ways to improve processes to be more efficient and effective.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
  • Perform and execute annual employee time study.  

Human Resource & Payroll

  • Oversee all functions associated with employee benefits, insurance providers, retirement plans, and vacation/sick leave plans.
  • Oversee new employee setup, including payroll enrollment, medical, dental, and vision benefits, short term, long term, and disability benefits, as well as retirement benefits.
  • Process new employee and new board member background checks.  Monitor and process updated employee and board member background checks every 3 years.
  • Monitor and adhere to written HR policies and procedures that comply with national office policies and federal employment laws.
  • Process and administer bi-weekly payroll and retirement contributions, create general ledger entries.
  • Coordinate with payroll service provider to process annual W-2 earnings statements to employees and 1099’s to contractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
  • Minimal 2 years of experience in accounting and/or financial reporting is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required, including demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in NetSuite is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations strongly preferred.
