Job Summary

The NMAAM Sr. Sales Manager, Events Partnerships leads and directs the sales organization for the Museum.  The Sr. Sales Manager leads and manages all sales operations and oversees activities of the sales team. The Sr. Sales Manager builds and manages all aspects of a sales department inclusive of lead management, account management, business analytics, and channel development.

The Sr. Sales Manager plays a strategic role in building creative sales strategies that are focused on consumer satisfaction and revenue generation for the Museum. In this position, the Sr. Sales Manager creates goals that comply with the attainment of the organization’s overall objectives and strives to meet and exceed these goals.

NMAAM is the only museum dedicated to preserving the legacy and celebrating the accomplishments of the many music genres created, influenced, or inspired by African Americans. The Museum will share the story of the American Soundtrack, integrating history and interactive technology to bring the musical heroes of the past into the present.

Job Responsibilities

Sales Team Management

  • Achieving growth and hitting sales targets by successfully managing sales teams and by assessing the team’s strengths and weaknesses 
  • Conducts reviews on the existent sales department strategies and weighs them against results in order to identify areas of improvement.
  • Maintains well-documented, accurate, organized and up-to-date management system in order to serve client in the most expedient, organized and knowledgeable manner.
  • Develop Sales process, reports and lead reports

Direct Sales

  • Solicit, negotiate and book new and repeat business through prospecting, emailing, referrals, etc. to maximize revenues. Target and pursue new developing markets which make business sense for the Museum, to include attending industry events, networking in the community, and visiting clients as necessary.
  • Oversee venue and event planning sales and functionalities
  • Plan, up sell and detail the meeting/function with the client, including space requirements, times, billing instructions, etc.
  • Complete the contracts, prepare areas, and resolve any issues, complaints, and/or problems to ensure quality product delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in daily business review meeting, training and other sales-related meetings.
    Targets results-oriented high revenue potential sales calls to ensure a successful direct sales program, in accordance with goals established by department budget and marketing plan.
  • Captures competitor’s accounts through networking, research and reader board surveys in order to target and solicit those most probable to generate new business.
  • Plans and implements an on-going targeted account development in order to create new revenue and acquire valuable contacts, and contracts.
  • Participates in tradeshows, sales workshops, sales seminars, and events on behalf of the business.

Client Services and Partnerships

  • Work with other departments to provide quality service to customers.
  • Develop partnership/sponsorship presentations and correspondences
  • Assist with maintaining and providing client servicing of relationships on behalf of the marketing department and the business between the consumers and external partners.
  • Oversee Group Sales partnerships and business
  • Identifies and develops new market opportunities for the business.
  • Stays up-to-date with industry best practices and standards through attending events and seminars, attending individual and group training programs, and reading industry publications and newsletters.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Five or more years in a sales position within a complex and fast-paced business environment, preferably as a Sales Manager.
  • BA (master’s preferred) in Communications, Business Administration, Business Management, Marketing, or any other related field. An equivalent of this requirement in working experience is also acceptable.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Supports the mission, vision and strategic goals of NMAAM to serve both internal and external customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner; maintains appropriate professional appearance.
  • Follows and supports policies and procedures of NMAAM.
  • Ability to act as ambassador of NMAAM and demonstrate confidence in knowledge of the history, brand values, vision, and direction
  • Demonstrated experience in sales research and how raw information and data is processed to become useful insights that assist the sales department in establishing appropriate strategies that lead to the achievement of goals and targets.
  • Established contacts and relationships within the business’s industry in addition to having experience working with sales account databases and CRM platforms.
  • Exceptional sales skills and a consistent track record in sales conversion success and performance
  • Able to communicate complex information and insights in reports in a simple, clear, and convincing manner, tailoring messages to suit various audiences.
  • Proficient story-teller who is able to sell the brand to potential clients and secure more sales for the business.
  • Great listener with ability to clarify and resolve issues and concerns of consumers, external partners, senior personnel, junior personnel etc.
  • Highly proficient in MicroSoft Office products including Word and PowerPoint, which are necessary for the creation of visually, and verbally engaging reports and presentations for senior management, external partners, junior sales personnel, collaborating personnel, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills and an ability to assimilate complex data and information from disparate sources and process it to address a certain need or issue in the sales department.
  • Ability to conduct regular research and analyses on the business’s market and competitive environment, looking for opportunities to further the sales department’s goals by adjusting strategies and approaches that enhance efficiency and performance.
  • Strong ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines with the ability to work well in group-settings, and have an ability to remain calm under stressful scenarios and uncertainty.
  • Ability to build trust within a large and diverse environment.
  • Approachable individual who is easy to get along with and who possesses an ability to form long-lasting and meaningful relationships with others on behalf of the business.

All Staff Duties:

  • Serves as leader to assure strong communications between NMAAM and all external constituents.
  • Actively seeks to learn the history of NMAAM.
  • Supports and promotes the museum’s mission.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of special events.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
