Job Summary
Plans, directs, or coordinates the nonacademic activities of preschool programs. Responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for the children enrolled in the program. Directs, supervises, and evaluates the job performance of all teacher assistants and educational aides. Communicates staff expectations and ensures compliance.
Job Responsibilities
- Determines the scope of non-educational program offerings and prepares drafts of program schedules and descriptions to estimate staffing and facility requirements. Supervises teacher assistants and educational aides and ensures all adhere to the appropriate program policies and procedures.
- Maintains accurate documentation of attendance, absences, and emergency information on each child; maintains all other records regarding schedule changes, student behavior, and incident reports.
- Initiates and maintains working relationships through regular contact with school staff, including the principal, secretaries, custodial staff, and teachers, regarding the smooth running of the after-school program.
- Documents personnel matters and performs assigned administrative tasks (accepting fees, entering data bookkeeping, compiling reports, etc.).
- Conducts regular staff meetings to identify concerns and barriers to the program’s success.
- Plans and implements engaging and enriching programming for after-school programs.
- Implements emergency procedures that are appropriate to the site and conform with guidelines outlined by MNPS—regularly schedules evacuation and safety drills with students and staff.
- Prepares and maintains attendance, activity, planning, accounting, or personnel reports and records for officials and agencies or directs preparation and maintenance activities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or a related degree is preferred. An associate’s degree and directly related experience may be exchanged for the degree.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: A valid Tennessee driver’s license is required.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of four years of directly applicable experience working with groups of pre-K children in a childcare setting.
