Job Summary

Nations Ministry Center is hiring a Site Coordinator to run an after-school and summer literacy program for refugee and immigrant youth.

Nations Ministry Center is a local non-profit partnering with refugees as they rebuild their lives. We promote generational self-sufficiency through youth development, immigration services, and case management to refugee elders. We are currently serving refugee and immigrant families from Burma, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Guatemala, Honduras, Iraq, Mexico, Nepal, Rwanda, Sudan, Venezuela, and Yemen.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervising students and volunteer tutors at our after-school and summer literacy program
  • Creating a safe environment in which refugee youth can thrive academically and socially
  • Keeping statistics, tracking program-related data, and working toward meeting grant outcomes
  • Planning and facilitating academic and enhancement activities
  • Recruiting, training, and managing volunteers
  • Home visits to enroll new students and to follow up with families regarding student progress
  • Interacting with teachers and administration at the schools
  • Facilitating family involvement at the school
  • Maintaining case files and spreadsheets
  • Attending meetings to strengthen relationships with funding partners and school administration
  • Transporting students to and from tutoring and field trips in either the agency van or a 14 passenger mid-bus (CDL not required)
  • Participating in agency-wide development activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Summer hours will be Monday-Thursday from 8:00a-5:00p (36 hrs/wk) in June and July. Starting in August, the position will be 28 hours a week on Monday-Thursday. Typical hours during the school year will be 11:30p-6:30p but hours may vary to accommodate meetings with funders or parents. Training would start in late May.


  • Candidates will have a strong commitment to Nations Ministry Center’s mission, compassion for children who have lived through traumatic events, and a willingness to be trained in the most effective responses.
  • Applicant must be able to pass a background check and have a clean driving record.
  • Candidate must be willing to take initiative and able to work independently.
  • Strong group management skills and organizational skills are required.
  • Prior experience working with youth strongly preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have a refugee or immigrant background and/or are proficient in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Burmese, Karen, Kinyarwanda, Nepali, Burmese, Spanish, Swahili, or Zomi.
